Help 20 girls and boys go to school this term

Foundation for the Future Sierra Leone (FFF-SL) is a non-profit community-based education initiative that works with children from Cockle Bay, a low-income urban community in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The vision of the organisation is for children and young people growing up in informal settlements to lead safe and happy lives and become engaged citizens.

 

How can you help?

During COVID-19, the organisation identified 20 children in the community who have never attended school, as their parents or guardians cannot afford to send them. The campaign will fund:

• School uniforms (rucksack, t-shirt, shoes and sports t-shirt)

• School fees for 6 months

• School textbooks and notebooks

• The support from the Foundation to keep children in school and provide extracurricular activities.

 

Your support can radically change the life of children, most of them girls, by giving them the chance of an education for the first time. The funds will be used immediately (September), to enrol children in this academic year.

Why are we doing this campaign?
We (Charlie and Ignacia) met while working in Sierra Leone. We have both worked with Musa (Director of the FFF-SL) and we were amazed by his determination to improve the educational opportunities of children and young people in his community. According to UNICEF, 36% of children do not complete primary education and 56% do not finish secondary education in Sierra Leone.
 
The FFF-SL works with volunteers from the community and provides extracurricular activities for children to complement their education and work towards lowering the drop-out rate from school. This includes extra school lessons for all levels, working with 120 children every week. On Saturdays, this also includes debates, quiz competitions, and psychosocial counselling.
