Unforgettable painting session with the Wisdom Mural Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

Community created murals represent the vision and dreams of  the community.

My name is Claudia Salguero and I am a community engaged muralist passionate about murals as carriers of meaningful messages.  In collaboration with members of the community I have created more than forty community murals in Ottawa and trough my work I have evidenced the power of community art and my capacity to work with communities in big projects. I believe in art as a tool for social change.

Help me create "The Wisdom Mural", our city's next grand community mural!

This is how we create murals together  (video)

Cultural exchange, community interaction, empowerment, sense of belonging. Each mural is a learning experience.

The "Be You" mural was created with the participation of 50 teenagers from five different high schools in Ottawa.

What is "The Wisdom Mural"?
Indigenous teachings from Canada and the world invite us to re-connect with Mother Nature in a conscious way, to appreciate her unlimited gifts and to recognizer her as the source of life. "We are one with Nature, we are one Together" This is the deepest of all teachings, the teaching that brings balance in Nature and in all aspects of our lives as inhabitants of the planet and as society.

This will be the topic of "The Wisdom Mural" that will be created in collaboration with Ottawa based knowledge keepers from Algonquin, Inuit, Métis, Afro Caribbean, Latin American, Asian, African, European, Indian and New Zealand cultures. Their teachings will be the inspiration for the concept of the mural and we will paint it together along with members of the community at large in Ottawa. It will be painted on panels  that will be installed on the big south wall of the Ottawa Community Housing building located at the intersection of Riverside Rd and Bank St in Ottawa.

How can you help create The Wisdom Mural?
For this project I have received the support of Ottawa Community Housing, City Councillor Jean Cloutier, Catholic Centre for Immigrants (supporting all religions and cultures) Ottawa South Community Resource Centre, City of Ottawa and Ottawa Community Foundation. But I need the support of donors like you to help finance the project.
The goal of this campaign is to reach $17.500.
Imagine you can be part of the creation of The Wisdom Mural!

These funds will be used to compensate the knowledge keepers and the Algonquin Emerging Artist who will be my mentee during the creation of the mural as well as for materials, installation, and labour.

This project is divided in two phases: Phase One:  The  knowledge keepers round tables that will be published on social media and that will inspire the concept of the mural.  Phase Two: the mural production and community painting sessions that will take place from April to September 2021 under strict social distancing measures.

We successfully completed Phase One. You can watch the recording of the Elders and Knowledge Keepers roundtables here:

With your support, more than 100 people from all origins, ages and genders will participate in the creation of a landmark mural in the Capital Region.  You will be part of the transformation of Ottawa into a more vibrant city, and  you will also connect with the community, the community partners, the project participants, and of course with Mother Nature!

The WOW mural, 2018, created with the participation of more than 80 members of the community from all backgrounds, ages and genders.
