<div>unser Kollege Tobias ist an <strong>ME/CFS</strong> (<a href="https://www.mecfs.de/was-ist-me-cfs/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Myalgische Enzephalomyelitis</a> /Chronisches Fatigue-Syndrom) erkrankt. Diese schwere, chronische Erkrankung beeinträchtigt die Lebensqualität erheblich und schränkt die Fähigkeit den Alltag zu meistern stark ein.
</div>

<div>Eine Infektion hat diese Krankheit bei Tobias hervorgerufen. Er stand als gesunder Mensch mitten im Leben und war beruflich ein wichtiger Teil unseres Teams. <strong>Wir möchten Tobias mit dieser Aktion dabei unterstützen, wieder ein Stückchen Selbststimmung im Leben zurückzugewinnen.</strong>
</div>

<div>Seit über einem Jahr ist Tobias nun nicht mehr arbeitsfähig und befindet sich im Krankenstand. Es wurde seitens des örtlichen zuständigen Integrationsamtes eine Behinderung festgestellt.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Natürlich ist nicht nur das berufliche Leben eingeschränkt, sondern auch das Private.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Das „normale“ Leben, wie er es kannte, ist für Tobias nicht mehr möglich. Akustische Reize belasten Tobias stark und können schnell einen sog. „Crash“ hervorrufen. Das bedeutet insbesondere: Treffen und Restaurantbesuche mit Freunden und Familie sind nur noch stark eingeschränkt möglich, an die Teilnahme an Feierlichkeiten wie beispielsweise anlässlich von Hochzeiten und Geburtstagen ist überhaupt nicht zu denken.

<div>Selbst das Treffen mit Freunden im virtuellen Raum ist nicht möglich, wenn mehr als 4 Leute im Raum sind, da hierbei schnell eine Überlastung entsteht.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Zwei Termine am Tag wahrzunehmen, stellt für Tobias das Maximum des Machbaren dar. Eine Einheit bei der Physiotherapie und ein Telefonat mit einem Freund beispielsweise – dann muss ein Tag als „ausgebucht“ bewertet werden.
</div>

</div>
<div>Die Aufmerksamkeitsspanne ist stark reduziert.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Tobias muss ständig darauf achten sich nicht zu überlasten. Eine Überlastung (ein sog. „Crash“) ruft bei Tobias eine starke Muskelschwäche hervor, die sich beispielsweise darin äußert, dass er nicht mehr in der Lage ist Lebensmittel zu schneiden, das Eingießen von Getränken ist erschwert, er hat Unsicherheiten beim Greifen von Gegenständen, und ist von Wortfindungsstörungen geplagt. Außerdem sind Nervenschmerzen im ganzen Körper nichts Ungewöhnliches.

<div>Fokusprobleme, „Brain Fog“, sowie Unsicherheiten beim Gehen begleiten Tobias rund um die Uhr.
</div>
<div>Tobias wünscht sich ein selbstbestimmtes Leben zurück. Nicht das Reisen oder abenteuerliche Unternehmungen stehen auf der Agenda ganz oben – ein großer Meilenstein wäre endlich wieder allein einkaufen gehen zu können. Hierbei, so wie auch bei Arztbesuchen und vielen weiteren Aktivitäten des Alltages, ist er aktuell auf Unterstützung durch seine Partnerin angewiesen. So wird also auch die Beziehung auf eine harte Probe gestellt.

<div><strong>Warum ein Assistenzhund?</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>Ein speziell ausgebildeter Assistenzhund wird Tobias das Leben deutlich erleichtern und ihm seine Unabhängigkeit zurückgeben. Diese treuen Gefährten sind weit mehr als Haustiere – sie sind sorgfältig trainierte Helfer, die eine Vielzahl von Aufgaben übernehmen können, um den Alltag von Menschen mit ME/CFS sicherer und komfortabler zu gestalten.

<div><strong>Was kann ein Assistenzhund leisten?</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<ul>
<li>Medizinische Alarme und Erinnerungen: Ein Assistenzhund kann spüren, wenn es Tobias nicht gut geht, ihn aus belastenden Situationen sicher herausführen, und Alarm schlagen. Er kann auch an die Einnahme von Medikamenten erinnern, wenn die Forschung so weit ist und es überhaupt eine Medikation gegen ME/CFS gibt.
</li>
<li>Physische Unterstützung: Bei Gangunsicherheiten bietet der Hund Stabilität, und er kann beim Aufstehen oder Gehen unterstützen. Dies ist besonders wichtig, da Tobias oft hiermit zu kämpfen hat.
</li>
<li>Gegenstände bringen und holen: Der Hund kann Gegenstände wie Wasserflaschen, Medikamente oder das Telefon bringen, wenn Tobias zu schwach ist, um selbst aufzustehen, oder sie aufgrund des „Brain Fog“ nicht wiederfindet.
</li>
<li>Notfälle erkennen: Im Falle eines medizinischen Notfalls kann der Hund Hilfe holen oder sogar einen Notruf auslösen.
</li>
<li>Emotionale Unterstützung: Die Anwesenheit eines Assistenzhundes bietet immense emotionale Unterstützung. Er hilft, Angstzustände zu lindern und bietet Trost in schwierigen Zeiten.
</li>
</ul>

<div>Perspektivisch wird der Assistenzhund Tobias auch dabei unterstützen wieder arbeiten zu können, so dass wir ihn hoffentlich schnell wieder ins Team „reintegrieren“ können.

<div><strong>Und wo wird so ein Hund ausgebildet?</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Es besteht bereits Kontakt mit der „<a href="https://helfende-pfoten.de/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Helfende Pfoten gGmbH</a> “. Die Inhaberin Katharina Küsters ist mit viel Herz und Verstand bei der Sache, und aufgrund ihrer über 17jährigen Erfahrung in der Ausbildung von Assistenzhunden hat sie mit ihrer Expertise bestätigt, dass es möglich ist, einen Hund entsprechend der bei Tobias vorliegenden Symptomatik auszubilden, so dass dieser durch den Assistenzhund eine große Hilfe in der Bewältigung des Alltags finden wird.
</div>
<div>Aktuell haben die „Helfenden Pfoten“ eine Anwärterin und einen Anwärter, die sich eignen würden an der Seite von Tobias durchs Leben zu gehen. Einen Ausbildungsvertrag kann Tobias jedoch nicht abschließen, bevor die Finanzierung sichergestellt ist. Leider sieht das deutsche Krankenversicherungssystem die Übernahme von Kosten für Assistenzhunde nur vor, wenn diese als Blindenführhund arbeiten. Andere Formen der Assistenzhunde werden von den Krankenkassen nicht übernommen.

<div><strong>Wie können Sie helfen?</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mit Anschaffung, Futter, Versicherung, Grundausbildung, Spezialausbildung, allen Gesundheitsuntersuchungen, Eignungsfeststellung und Teamprüfung kommen für einen Assistenzhund leicht 25.000 € an Kosten zusammen… und das nur, bis der Hund ca. 2 Jahre alt ist. Bis zu seiner Rente mit spätestens 12 Jahren kostet der Assistenzhund alles in allem rund 50.000 €.
</div>

<div>Neben den direkten Kosten für den Hund entstehen auch indirekte Kosten. So müssen beispielsweise geeignete Transportmittel für den Hund gefunden werden (E-Dreirad mit Transportbox für die Bewegung im Nahbereich, Transportbox für Reisen im Auto), Führgeschirr, Leinen, Hundedecken, … Da fällt einiges an.

<div>Jeder Beitrag zählt, sei er noch so klein. Gemeinsam können wir dafür sorgen, dass für Tobias ein vierbeiniger Helfer ausgebildet werden kann, und die beiden bald zu einem Team verschmelzen können.

<div><strong>Helping paws for a better life: Support for an assistance dog</strong>

<div>Our colleague Tobias suffers from ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome). This severe, chronic illness significantly impairs his quality of life and severely restricts his ability to cope with everyday life.
</div>
<div>Tobias developed the disease as a result of an infection. He was a healthy person in the middle of life and was an important part of our team personally and professionally.
</div>
<div>Tobias has been unable to work for over a year now and is on sick leave. He has been diagnosed with a disability by the local integration office.
</div>
<div>Of course, it is not only his professional life that is restricted, but also his private life.
</div>
<div>The "normal" life as he knew is no longer possible for Tobias. Acoustic stimuli place a heavy burden on Tobias and can quickly cause a so-called "crash". This means e.g. meetings and visits to restaurants with friends and family are now only possible to a very limited extent, and attending celebrations such as weddings and birthdays is completely out of the question.
</div>
<div>Even meeting up with friends in a virtual room is not possible if there are more than 4 people in the room, as this can quickly lead to an overload.
</div>
<div>Attending two appointments a day is the maximum possible for Tobias. A session at physiotherapy and a phone call with a friend, for example and a day has to be classed as "fully booked".
</div>

<div>His attention span is strongly limited.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Tobias must be constantly careful not to overload himself. An overload (a so-called "crash") causes severe muscle weakness in Tobias, which manifests itself, for example, in the fact that he is no longer able to cut food, it is difficult for him to pour drinks, he is unsteady when grasping objects and is plagued by word-finding difficulties. In addition, nerve pain throughout the body is not uncommon.
</div>
<div>Focus problems, "brain fog" and unsteadiness when walking accompany Tobias around the clock.
</div>
<div>Tobias wants his self-determined life back. Travel or adventurous activities are not at the top of his agenda - a major milestone would be to finally be able to go shopping for groceries on his own again. He is currently dependent on his partner's support for this, as well as for visits to the doctor and many other everyday activities. So, the relationship is also being put to the test.
</div>

<div>How can an assistance dog help?
</div>
<div>A specially trained assistance dog will make Tobias' life much easier and give him back a part of his independence. These loyal companions are much more than pets - they are carefully trained helpers who can take on a variety of tasks to make everyday life safer and more comfortable for people with ME/CFS.

<div><strong>What can an assistance dog do?</strong>
</div>

</div>

<li>Medical alerts and reminders: An assistance dog can sense when Tobias is unwell, guide him safely out of stressful situations, and raise the alarm. It can also remind him to take medication if research has reached the stage where medication for ME/CFS is available.
</li>
<li>Physical support: The dog provides stability when gait is unsteady and can help standing up or walking. This is particularly important as Tobias often struggles with this.
</li>
<li>Bringing and fetching objects: The dog can bring items such as water bottles, medication, or the telephone if Tobias is too weak to get up himself or cannot find them again due to "brain fog".
</li>
<li>Recognize emergencies: In the event of a medical emergency, the dog can fetch help or even make an emergency call.
</li>
<li>Emotional support: The presence of an assistance dog provides immense emotional support. It helps to alleviate anxiety and offers comfort in difficult times.
</li>

<div>In the future, the assistance dog would also help Tobias to get back to work, so that we can hopefully "reintegrate" him into the team again quickly.
</div>
<div>And where is a dog like this trained?
</div>

<div>We are already in contact with "Helfende Pfoten gGmbH". The owner, Katharina Küsters, has put her heart and soul into the project and, with over 17 years of experience in training assistance dogs, she has confirmed with her expertise that it is possible to train a dog according to Tobias' symptoms, so that the assistance dog will be a great help in coping with everyday life.

<div><strong>How can you help?</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>With the purchase, food, insurance, basic training, special training, all health examinations, aptitude tests and team testing, an assistance dog can easily cost €25,000... and that's only until the dog is around 2 years old. By the time it retires at the age of 12 at the latest, the assistance dog will cost around €50,000 in total.
</div>
<div>In addition to the direct costs for the dog, there are also indirect costs. For example, suitable means of transport for the dog must be found (e-tricycle with transport box for movement in the immediate vicinity, transport box for traveling in the car), harnesses, leashes, dog blankets, ... There is a lot involved.
</div>
