<div>wir möchten Ihnen von unserem tapferen 4-jährigen Sohn Bruno erzählen.
</div>
<div>Mein Name ist Maik, und als Eltern haben wir alles getan, um Bruno den bestmöglichen Start ins Leben zu ermöglichen. Wir haben immer angenommen, dass er ein kerngesundes Kind ist – kein Elternteil rechnet damit, dass es ihr Kind trifft. Und doch wurden wir mit der erschütternden Wirklichkeit konfrontiert, über die sich jeder betroffene Elternteil fragt: Warum Krebs? Warum Kinder? Warum er? (es sollte niemanden treffen)

<div>Diese Fragen sind quälend, und auch wenn wir keine Antworten haben, müssen wir uns dem täglichen Kampf stellen.

<div>Die vergangenen Monate haben unser Leben völlig verändert und uns vor Herausforderungen gestellt, die uns jeden Tag an unsere Grenzen führen. Wir hatten uns auf einen ersehnten Familienurlaub am Bodensee gefreut, wo Bruno Zeit mit seinem Cousin und beim Drachenfest verbringen wollte. Doch unser Alltag wurde unerwartet von einer düsteren Diagnose überschattet.

<div>Bruno kämpfte mehrere Tage mit anhaltendem Fieber, das trotz fiebersenkender Mittel nur kurzzeitig zurückging. Ein dringender Anruf von unserem Kinderarzt schickte uns in die Kinderklinik. Die Stunden dort waren geprägt von banger Ungewissheit und der Hoffnung auf eine harmlose Diagnose. Doch als wir schließlich in der Notaufnahme mit der Realität konfrontiert wurden, dass Bruno auf die Onkologie verlegt werden musste, wurde klar, dass sein Leben ohne sofortige Behandlung akut gefährdet war. Die Diagnose lautete akute lymphatische Leukämie, speziell die Unterart b-ALL. Dieser Moment war für uns ein schwerer Schock, welchen wir bis heute noch nicht überwunden haben, da wir nur funktionieren.

<div>Seit der Diagnose am 05.09.2024 befindet sich Bruno in einem intensiven Chemotherapie-Programm. Nach einem vierwöchigen stationären Chemotherapie-Zyklus sind wir nun im zweiten Therapieabschnitts von vier eines sechsmonatigen intensiven Behandlungsplans. Sollte alles nach Plan verlaufen, erstreckt sich die gesamte Therapie über insgesamt zwei Jahre.

<div>Diese Zeit ist geprägt von täglichen Herausforderungen: Die Behandlung ist extrem fordernd und besteht aus potenten Medikamenten mit starken Wirkungen und Nebenwirkungen, wie Haarausfall, Herzrhythmusstörungen, allgemeinen Schmerzen, Schleimhautablösungen, Magendarmproblemen, Übelkeit, Appetitlosigkeit, Heißhunger, Schlafstörungen, Empfindungsstörungen und extremen Stimmungsschwankungen. Die unzähligen medizinischen Eingriffe, die notwendig sind, schränken Brunos Autonomie stark ein.

<div>Unser Alltag ist ein permanenter Kraftakt zwischen Krankenhaus und Zuhause. Aufgrund der Therapie ist Bruno isoliert, was bedeutet, dass Treffen mit Freunden und Aktivitäten außerhalb des Hauses aktuell gar nicht möglich sind, was uns allen zutiefst zusetzt. Der Einfluss des Cortisons führt zu extremen Belastungen, einschließlich erheblicher Gewichtszunahme und intensiven Stimmungsschwankungen, die oft dazu führen, dass Bruno nachts das Bedürfnis hat, dass für ihn gekocht wird.

<div>Das Klinikpersonal gibt in den ambulanten Phasen stets sein Bestes, um Bruno in dieser schwierigen Zeit mit medizinischer Versorgung und Zuwendung zu unterstützen. Doch die Hauptlast des Alltags und der emotionalen Herausforderung tragen wir als Eltern. Jeder Tag ist ein Balanceakt zwischen Pflege, emotionaler Unterstützung und den finanziellen Sorgen, die durch die notwendige 24/7-Betreuung entstehen.

<div>Seine Verzweiflung wird greifbar, wenn er weinend sagt: „Ich möchte nicht mehr ins Krankenhaus, ich habe Angst, dass sie was machen.“ Diese Momente sind schwer zu ertragen, und dennoch kämpfen wir gemeinsam mit ihm, um ihm beizustehen.

<div>Trotz der Belastungen zeigt unser tapferer Bruno einen bemerkenswerten Überlebenswillen.

<div>Ein zentraler Bestandteil von Brunos Kampfgeist und Mut sind seine Mutperlen. Diese Perlen sind Symbole für die zahlreichen medizinischen Prozeduren, die er durchmachen muss. Für jeden einzelnen Eingriff, von einem einfachen Fingerpieks bis hin zu schmerzhaften Lumbal- und Knochenmarkspunktionen und den Chemotherapie-Sitzungen, erhält Bruno eine Perle.

<div>We want to tell you about our brave 4-year-old son Bruno.
</div>
<div>My name is Maik, and as parents, we have done everything to give Bruno the best possible start in life. We always assumed he was a perfectly healthy child – no parent expects their child to be affected. And yet we were confronted with the devastating reality every affected parent wonders about: Why cancer? Why children? Why him? (it should affect no one)
</div>
<div>These questions are agonizing, and even though we have no answers, we have to face the daily struggle.
</div>

<div>The past few months have completely changed our lives and presented us with challenges that push us to our limits every day. We had been looking forward to a much-anticipated family vacation at Lake Constance, where Bruno wanted to spend time with his cousin and attend the kite festival. But our everyday life was unexpectedly overshadowed by a grim diagnosis.
</div>

<div>Bruno struggled with persistent fever for several days, which only subsided briefly despite antipyretic medication. An urgent call from our pediatrician sent us to the children's hospital. The hours there were filled with anxious uncertainty and hope for a harmless diagnosis. But when we were finally confronted in the emergency room with the reality that Bruno had to be transferred to oncology, it became clear that his life was acutely at risk without immediate treatment. The diagnosis was acute lymphoblastic leukemia, specifically the b-ALL subtype. This moment was a severe shock for us, one we haven't yet overcome, as we continue to function.

<div>Since the diagnosis on 09/05/2024, Bruno has been in an intensive chemotherapy program. After a four-week inpatient chemotherapy cycle, we are now in the second phase of a four-phase six-month intensive treatment plan. If everything goes according to plan, the entire therapy will span a total of two years. This time is marked by daily challenges: the treatment is extremely demanding and consists of potent medications with strong effects and side effects, such as hair loss, heart arrhythmia, general pain, mucosal shedding, gastrointestinal issues, nausea, loss of appetite, cravings, sleep disturbances, sensory disturbances, and extreme mood swings. The countless medical interventions necessary greatly restrict Bruno's autonomy.

<div>Our daily life is a constant balancing act between the hospital and home. Due to the therapy, Bruno is isolated, meaning meetings with friends and activities outside the home are currently not possible, which deeply affects all of us. The impact of cortisone leads to extreme strains, including significant weight gain and intense mood swings, often resulting in Bruno needing to have food cooked for him at night.

<div>The clinic staff always does their best during the outpatient phases to support Bruno with medical care and attention during this difficult time. Yet, the main burden of daily life and the emotional challenges fall on us as parents. Every day is a balancing act between caregiving, emotional support, and the financial worries caused by the necessary 24/7 care.

<div>His desperation becomes palpable when he says, crying, "I don't want to go to the hospital anymore, I'm afraid they'll do something." These moments are hard to bear, and yet we fight alongside him to support him.

<div>Despite the burdens, our brave Bruno shows a remarkable will to survive.
</div>
<div>A central component of Bruno's fighting spirit and courage are his beads of courage. These beads symbolize the numerous medical procedures he has to undergo. For every single procedure, from a simple finger prick to painful lumbar punctures and bone marrow aspirates and chemotherapy sessions, Bruno receives a bead.

<div>To provide Bruno with the best possible care and aftercare, we ask for your support. Donations are particularly used to alleviate the financial burdens caused by reduced work and to ensure Bruno's rehabilitation after therapy.
