Helen Fey and Danelle - Build from the Ashes!

Donation protected
Hello everyone! As you know, wildfires are sweeping through areas of the West Coast, and many people's homes have been lost. Helen Fey and Danelle, whom we all know and love, have now had visual confirmation that the home that they bought and moved into just a month ago and have lived in with all the luxuries of indoor plumbing and electricity for only a couple of weeks has burned to the ground in the Echo Mountain Complex Fire

They evacuated with their cat and dog Miso and Inky as the threat level quickly increased from nothing to Level Three as the fire roared up the hillsides behind their mountain home, aided by high wind levels and dry conditions, and they feel incredibly lucky to have escaped unharmed with what was in their vehicles and to be together still.

It will be days until we are able to safely inspect the property personally to see if the beautiful Sitka tree survived, if the pump house was far enough from the flames of the house to remain, and if the cast iron pans can be sifted out of the ashes, since firefighters and emergency crews are still actively fighting to contain and extinguish the flames.

They plan to rebuild, but inside their home were all of their most special items - Helen Fey’s wedding dress, the jewelry box Danelle made for her and the earring/ jewelry collection they have spent years collecting, special pictures of friends and family, irreplaceable vintage items, childhood mementos, wonderful original art by Danelle, the boxes of nectarines and prunes that they had just dehydrated, Helen Fey's beautifully knitted projects, all the carefully selected kitchen appliances and dishes and cooking supplies that have helped create countless delicious treats that they have most certainly shared with each one of us, ALL of their clothes, tea-making, gardening, and tincture supplies, the stormy ocean hand blown glasses they were so excited to pour the first drinks shared at a new house into, and all of their lovely greenhouse and house plants.

Insurance is unlikely (and unable) to cover the costs of many of the irreplaceable things, and is also unlikely to cover the full costs it will take to rebuild a new home for them on their property.

So many people have already reached out looking for ways to help, since to know either Helen Fey or Danelle is to know the joy and love that they shower on even the most casual of acquaintances  in the form of food, friendship, acceptance and community. Now is the time for us to show them how much we appreciate them.

The money raised in this fundraiser will go directly to Helen Fey and Danelle for rebuilding costs and the replacement of necessary items for their household.

We're so grateful that physical items are the only thing we have to grieve for in this disaster, and our hearts are with all of those who have lost so much more in these devastating fires.

Hug each other when you can, wear a mask, and in the years to come we'll build new memories together in this new space we will create!
