Helen Clark's Campaign against Cancer
Donation protected
In years past Helen Clark could be found in the kitchen at Orange United Methodist, serving the women at the local homeless shelter, or ministering to women in prison. She has fed many people in our community with both physical and spiritual nourishment. If you have been on the receiving end of Helen's talent in the kitchen, you certainly have been blessed. Despite her on going health issues, she has been a pillar of the at Orange United Methodist Church and in Chapel Hill for many, many years.
In July 2020, Helen was diagnosed with what oncologists have termed a malignant carcinoma of unknown origin. In fact they describe the origin of the cancer as a “puzzle” for them. Helen’s diagnosis began just as she had reached a point of hopefully getting out of a two year period of being in a wheelchair due to an original fractured left foot that resulted in several surgeries and hospital stays and a difficult post-operative infection.
Helen has now been through more surgery, and she is just completing 30 rounds of radiation to the neck and the insertion of a feeding tube to sustain her until she is able to eat again. The feeding tube is new and Helen is again hospitalized as she struggles with additional complications presented by the tube. This will take time; once the tube complications are settled she will remain with the tube for a good 4-6 weeks to give her body nourishment and healing.
So her struggle remains, and once the body heals the doctors will work to define the origin of this particular cancer - much more remains to be determined and treated. Helen's journey is long from over. She covets your prayers and your willingness to help her fight this battle with cancer.
Many people have asked how they can help Helen through this difficult time. Helen has incurred many expenses related to treatment and her daily life. If you so feel lead, this GoFundMe is designed to allow people to donate directly to Helen to ease these expenses.
