Heather's Continued Healing

As I was browsing through Facebook today, a friend's status came up on my Newsfeed. As I read it over and over,  it stayed in my mind and I thought, what can I do to help her?  She is a Breast Cancer Survivor (Thank God) and she was frustrated, that after talking to various Cancer foundations, not one will help to ease the financial burden of the cost of her treatments (because she HAS insurance)  Not one. She is a single mom, worked throughout her treatments and numerous surgeries. 

When you're  FINALLY Cancer-free, you want to start living again.  But, then the bills start to come in. And they're insurmountable. The high cost of the deductibles, the premiums, the co-pays, the out of pocket expenses that you are responsible for. They want their money and  you are left with worry, frustration, dread and even fear.  And on top of all of this, you still have kids to raise and monthly bills that do not go away just because you had cancer.  I reached out to her brother when she was starting her treatment (over a year ago) and asked him about a GoFundMe page and he told me that she did not want that. I can appreciate this, I would feel the same way. But sometimes, we just need another to step in and fill that gap, and to take away some of that burden.  So, even though I do not really know Heather very well, I DO KNOW that this is someone that needs the help and the generousity of others. No person should be left to deal with something like this by themselves. Cancer is hard enough, but the thought of "where do I go from here," is all too often asked when you are left with a mountain of bills and not a whole lot of resources because you do work hard to have insurance. But we all know that insurance doesn't even begin to cover all of the expenses that person is left responsible for.  BUT, WE can help with that.

Heather O'Kelley Boersma does not, and did not ask for this.  She is probably going to be VERY surprised that a FB friend of hers that she really does not know very well, decided to start this page. But it was laid on my heart to do so.  We all know the Holidays are fast approaching and what a gift it would be to lift some of the financial strain from her. ALL of this money will go directly to Heather to use for her medical bills, everyday bills, meals or just getting a tank of gas. It is completely up to her to use the money as she sees fit to do so.

Please consider donating a few dollars to her. $10, $20, $30, whatever you can give will help in reaching the goal that is set. I made the goal $1000.00, but if there is more, that is even BETTER! I would love to get this money to her before Christmas. This is a time of year for giving and I cannot think of anything better to donate to.  To lift just some of the burden would make her Christmas all that much better.  If you cannot donate, please say a prayer in place of a donation.  AND, PLEASE share this page.
