Volunteering in India August 2018

Donation protected

Thank you for taking the time to check out my gofundme page!

What am I doing?
In August 2018, I will be spending 2 weeks volunteering in Kerala, India.
I will be teaching classes to the children in local schools, as well as working in the orphanages for 6 hours per day.
The project also offers the opportunity to trek across the hills of Munnar and take boat rides across the rivers and canals.

Why am I doing this?
I am a 20 year old first-year mental health nursing student, which means that I am at the university for over 44 weeks in a year. This means that I have very little chance to travel, therefore I have decided to use my free time in August (4 weeks) to travel to India and volunteer with families and children from deprived areas.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. The experiences I encounter whilst in India will help to enrich my perspective on life and the things we take for granted everyday in the UK.
Furthermore, having the ability to physically help individuals who are in need is one of my core values and beliefs, therefore I am eager to help children and families who do not receive anywhere near the same support that the western world benefits from.

How will your money help?
By donating money, you will be helping to support me in paying for the project and purchasing any equipment I'll need before setting off. This really isn't an affordable experience, therefore every single donation will mean the world to me. Here is a list of the things that your donations will be supporting me in:
- Travel Insurance
- Equipment such as walking boots, protective clothing etc
- Flights and Project fees
- Maintenance Budget
What does this mean for me?
Money has been one of my biggest obstacles growing up, and I have had so many ideas and ambitions which have been hindered purely because of money restrictions. Whilst 20 is still young, every day I am getting older and as soon as I graduate from university I will be going into a full-time qualified job in the adult world. This is one of my final chances to fulfill my ambitions and broaden my horizons beyond Holmfirth and Nottingham! This would mean more to me than anything I have ever experienced, and embarking on this mission alone is scary regardless of finances! Anything from £1 would mean the world to me!
