The New Hope Project

Hello.  My name is Heather Daniel and I recently returned from a 24 day humanitarian trip to The Gambia, Africa.  What moved me the most while there, were the children.  Their smiles, curiosity, and laughter were so much like the children here and yet there was a difference. Many young children sat with their mothers’ at the market while they sold items to support their families.  While some young children are privileged enough to attend schools, many are not.  When I saw this challenge I never wondered if it could be conquered, simply how.  How can I help? It is not my mission to change the world but to humbly do something to help these children and watch THEM change it.  We don’t know what child will become the next Barack Obama, Nelson Mandela, or Maya Angelou, but what if they were never given the chance?  Being in The Gambia inspired me to help start a preschool/scholarship program. The school will provide nutrition in the form of breakfast, phonics, beginning reading, music enrichment, art, social skills, physical education and family participation.  I have decided to dedicate my time, energy, and love to spending 8 months living in The Gambia to develop this program to help children form the foundation to achieve what they are capable of.  However, I need your help! I am asking for donations to help cover my transportation, shipping fees (for school supplies), construction fees and other expenses that we may encounter.  A wise person told me; if we only help ourselves, our world stays very small.  The more people we reach out to, the bigger our world becomes.  This is the heart of volunteerism.
