20 Years of STAR Project
It’s our 20th Birthday!! Help us celebrate by joining us in changing the lives of over 1000 people this year!
We're raising money for STAR Project and every penny counts. Thank you in advance for your contribution.
STAR Project (Scottish Charity SC028133), an award winning community organisation, delivers sustainable and positive social outcomes by using creativity as a platform for change. Employing a person-centred approach, we deliver therapeutic group and individual supports that build safer, more connected and resilient families and communities. We have a solid track record of positive impact across disengaged individuals/families facing disadvantage and likely poor outcomes. In the heart of a multiply deprived area, where people face well documented challenges, we facilitate opportunity and aspiration, boost life chances, engender community ownership, celebrate every success and reduce stigma. Our unique universal approach allows us to see the person, not a label, not a statistic, which ultimately makes people feel safe and accepted and ready to take a step towards realising their potential. No other service in Renfrewshire, that we are aware of, supports over 1000 community members annually in such a comprehensive and effective way.
A sample of our work –
Our Therapeutic Art Workshops are issue based (domestic abuse, poverty etc) and offer a safe space for individual and collective expression of difficult experiences. Around 150 people each year benefit from these workshops! “To realise you’re not alone in your pain anymore is lifechanging”.
Our Community Fridge & Pantry was introduced to tackle #FoodInsecurity and encourage #ZeroFoodWaste. This initiative prevents hunger for over 100 family members each month and redirects around 120kg food from landfill (the weight of a fully grown giant panda).
Chin Up is a new local men's group (ages 21-31) developed to improve wellbeing and community pride through community art, training, and outdoor activities. This development is a direct response to the rising issues around male mental health prevalent in our community.
Paisley Men’s Shed, registered with Scottish Men’s Shed Association, is a space for men to share skills such as woodworking and horticulture. The Shed, which has 36 members to date, reduces isolation, improves wellbeing and offers men of all ages a safe haven.
We need your support to continue our fast response to the needs of our community as they arise. Thank you!
