Help For Heather Kounthapanya - Pedestrian Struck

Donation protected

Heather pre and post-surgery at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

Heather made it through her transfer to Vanderbilt Rehabilitation in Nashville—first morning of PT and she made it to a wheelchair for the first time.

A letter from the Kounthapanya family:

Dear loved ones,

We are Bryan, Vickie and Leslie Kounthapanya, the parents and sister of Heather Kounthapanya, and it breaks our hearts that we are fundraising for our daughter, sister.

On late Friday evening 09/16/2022, in the downtown Chattanooga area, Heather was struck as a pedestrian rightfully crossing the street by an unknown driver going high-speed on a left turn, who ultimately fled the scene. Heather is a victim of hit-and-run.

Heather suffered a completely shattered left hip socket, which holds the pelvis and femur together, and a small skull fracture on her right temporal side with minor brain bleeding that has been stabilized. She will be unable to fully walk on her own without rehabilitation for a very long time—as we were told, at least 1 year to any level of "normalcy."

Between the medical care, recovery, legal fees, and financial hardship on the family who have taken months of time off from work to help with 24/7 rehabilitation care—Heather's medical bills will be astronomical and long-term.

We would like to share where these gifts will be distributed:

  • Medical Bills
  • Rehabilitation In-patient & Out-patient Bills
  • Construction Costs for ADA Accessibility Conversions at Home
  • Accessibility Equipment & Furnishings Required while Rehabilitating: wheelchair, walker, crutches, ADA grab bars, tub chairs, new lowered bed, and any other equipment specified by the rehabilitation facility.
  • Legal and Attorney Fees (Civil Court & Criminal Court)
  • Aid for Heather’s Daily Living Expenses in Chattanooga
  • Financial Aid for the family during their time out of work to help
  • At-Home Hospice Care
  • Gifting to Heather for this painful and traumatic time in her life

Please consider helping our Kounthapanya family by taking away the stress of these expenses and other needs that arise.

We are so grateful for any amount of help. Thank you from the bottom of all our hearts.

God Bless

Sincerely,
Bryan, Vickie & Leslie

News Channel 12: Coverage of Heather's incident. The footage was aired by her colleagues at the News Station, where she used to work. They had no idea it was about Heather until they heard of her accident, made the connection, and then kindly shared the footage. Thank you to all involved.

Initial photos documented from the night of the incident in the ER.
