You’ve seen them a thousand times. You stop at a red light and, out of the corner of your eye, you see them sitting at the median. All their worldly possessions in a tent just behind them – their home. They are quietly and unobtrusively asking for compassion, through a simple cardboard sign. How many times have you wished you could help them, but you were hesitant to reach out? You avoid eye contact and pray for them, pray for someone to do something, pray for the light to change quickly. You’ve done it a thousand times.
Want to help?
Every two weeks, we feed 50-80 homeless individuals in Oakland. We provide those in the greatest need with the bare necessities of survival – food, clothing, hygiene, and a humane connection through personalized interactions. We are providing them with just what they need to have a great day. This has been a self-funded project for nearly two years, and we are now accepting donations from the public.
To put a smile on 50 peoples’ faces costs at least $400. 100% of your contribution will go to the following items:
Hearty Sandwiches (bread, turkey, cheese, lettuce, ranch sauce)
Organic fruit
Chips
Hard-boiled eggs
Candy
Gatorade
Water
New socks
New underwear (men’s and women’s)
Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo)
Feminine hygiene products
We would also like to offer sleeping bags, boots, and coats (from Salvation Army) just for winter.
