Help me get to Haiti!

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Josh Ledesma from Los Angeles, California. On January 16th, i'll be going with five others to a village in Haiti known as Sobier.  I will be working in partnership with The Heart of Hollywood Foundation, Hollywood United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Our goal is to assist in building a health clinic for the people of Sobier.

(more information about the wonderful Heart of Hollywood Foundation can be found here: http://www.heartofhollywoodfoundation.org/)

The village of Sobier is about three hours west of Port-Au-Prince, and the nearest medical facility is approximately an hour-long walk away. This makes it difficult for the elderly and already ill to receive adequate healthcare. Our goal is to assist in the building of this clinic in order to provide better community healthcare and healthcare education for the citizens of Sobier.

We will also be assessing the other needs of the community, such as access to freshwater and proper agricultural practices. The Monte Sano United Methodist Church has already participated in a Haiti mission trip in which the status of the community was assessed to see how it could be benefitted by the organization. More information on the living conditions of the people of Sobier can be found by following these links here:

It is our mission not only to assist in the building of the clinic but to help further the progress of this community by providing resources and implementing efficient practices to help better and sustain the quality of life in this community.

This is where you come in. This mission trip is purely volunteer-based and we are doing our best to fundraise as much as we can in order to supply our trip with the necessary costs. All the money we raise goes straight to our accomodations, the materials we need to work in Haiti as well as air-fare. The target amount for one individual member in our group is $2,300. This includes all of the necessities i mentioned above. Here is a breakdown of how the costs pan out for each member in our group:

$1,000 - airfare and local transportation
$400 - site prepared meals and conservative accommodations (sleeping cots and bucket showers)
$450 - site building materials and to employ worksite laborers
$200 - employ local workers (drivers, translators, security and cooks)
$250 - community support (in-kind donations, clothing, supplies, hot school lunches)

The extra $200 on my personal goal for this campaign arises out of the amount that will be taken out of the total donations i gather by the website itself, leaving me with $2300. This will be enough to fly me out to Haiti and be able to cover all of my expenses so that I can help provide the people of Sobier with better living conditions.

I've done several mission trips with the majority of people on this team before, and each one of them has been absolutely incredible. Each time i've connected with a new kind of community and a different kind of people. I do this because we're part of a group of people that want to spread the basic resources every person needs to survive. Unfortunately not everyone in the world has efficient access (if any) to clean drinking water. Not everyone has access to basic healthcare or healthcare education. Hell, not everyone has access to basic education. The reason I've wanted and still want to take part in these mission trips is to try to be able to help whoever i can - however i can - in any way shape or form. This is why i continue to do this.

Any donation at all would help me tremendously. Your donation wouldn't only be helping me, it'd be helping a whole community of people as well.  Anything you'd be willing to part with would be going to a good cause, and every little bit would mean the world to me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about what i'm doing, and thank you for all of your support. I really appreciate it.

Josh
