Team Monica: Battling Brain Cancer

Our dear friend, Monica Holmes, was eager to begin  "The Summer of Monica" in early June of this year.  As some of you may know, she had been suffering from debilitating headaches and fatigue for a while, which is partly why she chose not to teach summer school for the first time in many years.  On June 21, after her third trip to the ER, here's what happened...in her own words: 

"Well, the Summer of Monica took a slight detour this week...I found out that I have a brain tumor in my right lobe. I'll be having surgery tomorrow...followed by a couple rounds of chemo and/or radiation.  All prayers, thoughts, and groovy vibes are appreciated.  I feel blessed to be surrounded by so much love and support.  This is one of those detours life throws at you sometimes, and one I plan to fight successfully."

Her glioblastoma treatment plan includes alternating chemotherapy, radiation, and  an Optune device  designed specifically for this type of brain cancer. This week, she is going in for her second CT scan post-surgery, and as always, she is staying positive and hoping for good news. 

Please join us in supporting Monica and her family as they continue this journey through treatment and recovery.  She has already used up most of her medical leave,  her monthly income will soon be significantly reduced, and as of June 2020, she will no longer receive a paycheck. Monica and her family need and deserve our support!
