Love Hearts for Emily

Emily Rose is a kind, loving and joyfully spirited four year old little girl who tragically lost her daddy (Thomas) on August 5, 2017, after being brutally beaten to death during a road rage attack in Toledo, OH.  For those of you who know Emily, you know that she lights up a room with her smile and grand entrance (everyone knows when Emily has arrived to the party), has a contagious giggle, is full of wit and wisdom, and has a stink eye that can only  make you love her more than you already do. Emily is one of the sweetest little girls you will ever meet, because she had the love of a devoted father that modeled kindness, gentleness, and unconditional love from the day she was born.
Thomas was not only suddenly taken from Emily, but he was also taken from Emily's mother (Sydney). While Emily's parents were separated at the time of his death, they set the perfect example of how parents not living in the same household should co-parent.  They always put their daughter first and their personal differences aside in order to raise her in a loving environment. Thomas was so devoted to being a great father that he went above and beyond the support he was required to provide his daugther by consistently fulfilling his scheduled time with Emily, helping her mom out on a whim so she could avoid extra child care expenses and he could spend even more time with his daughter. Thomas was always willing to help with any additional expenses for his daughter that may have unexpectedly arised.
This Gofundme is too help Emily and her mom through transitioning from a dual parenting family life to a single one.  Sydney had been laid off from work and working part-time until she was started a new job 5 days before the after the tragic incident.  Sydney was very excited to start her new job, as it was full-time, would come with benefits, and a consistent day time schedule allowing her to spend more time with her children. Unfortunately, only 5 days after she started training for her new job she needed to take a day off to prepare and tell Emily the sad news that her daddy would never wake up again, that he had died and to say their final goodbyes surrounded by loved ones sharing stories and memories of Thomas.  Her new employer informed her at this time that she is only allowed 1 day for bereavement and it would be best to put in her resgination, knowing she would need more time off in the next week. This would allow her the opportunity to reapply at a later date.
Sydney not only has lost the financial help Thomas provided, but her job as well. Emily is going to need significant counseling as she witnessed the brutal beating her father suffered.  Sydney needs to find a job that will provide more flexibility as there will be a lot of appointments and likely days Emily may not be emotionally stable to go to childcare as she mourns the death of her daddy.        The funds raised would allow Emily's mom the time she needs in coming weeks or months to be there to comfort Emily as she tries to understand what is happening and to cope with all the changes to come, seek employment, find a counseling service for both her and Emily, pay for those services and cover some of the expenses that Thomas typically helped with. While Emily may receive some social security survivor benefits it won't be much, as Thomas was so young and will not have paid much in.
On a final note, I would like to share the meaning behind "Love Hearts for Emily".  As part of the process to help Emily cope with the death of her daddy, she was read a book titled "The Kissing Hand". The story is about helping Chester a young raccoon ease into his fears.  His mother shares a family secret about the kissing hand that gives him reassurance of her love anytime the world feels scary.  Emily was given small heart trinkets to warm in her hand and fill with her love so she could give them to anyone she felt needed a comforting hug.  A heart was also was warmed in her daddy's hand and given to Emily. Emily then began warming her love hearts in her hand and filling them with all her and her daddy's love (from her brain as she described it) and giving them to all of Thomas's loved ones letting them know that if they ever felt they needed a hug all they had to do was touch their heart.  Emily has since provided assurance to nearly a hundred people by giving them warm, comforting love hearts taking the time to warm each one in her hand by sending the love from her brain. If you have not had the pleasure of knowing Emily or to receive one of her special hearts, I hope you do as you can't help but feel special, loved and blessed.
Thank you for taking the time to visit the Love Hearts for Emily gofundme page.  As hard as I try, I know there are really no words to take away the heartache and suffering they are experiencing right now.  My hope is that by alleviating some of their fears and burdens for the future will help reassure Emily and her family that they are deeply loved during this most difficult time.  Any funding received beyond the gofundme goal, will be put aside to start a college fund for Emily.

Many blessings and gratitude,
Emily's Great Aunt Jenny
