Dearest Friends, Family, Strangers, and soon-to-be Supporters of this noble cause,
We are the Skilpadjies, two young and foolish business students from Austria and South Africa, embarking on what promises to be a ridiculous and rather perilous 3000km journey on a 3-wheeled chariot through an intriguing and incredible country called India. This is going down in January 2019 and it’s a race.
For some perspective:
The route we will be conquering is equivalent to the distance between Stockholm and Rome, Cape Town and Malawi, New York and the Mexican Border…. And our noble steed has the performance of a go-kart or a supercharged lawnmower.
And why are we doing this you may ask? Quite frankly, it seemed like a trip that would produce crazy stories for years to come while doing a little bit of good along the way. That’s all the motivation we need to drive a glorified lawnmower through a country we have never visited whilst risking our stomach lining for a good cause. We (and our digestive systems) will probably never be the same again.
This trip is ambitious, and that is why we need your help! We will be raising money for two very worthy causes that are truly making a difference.
- Heartlands Baby Sanctuary in South Africa: This initiative is a Child and Youth Care Centre and a Paediatric Hospice located in Somerset West in the Western Cape. The team at Heartlands cares for abandoned, abused, neglected children as well as those diagnosed with life limiting illnesses. We visited the team at Heartlands in January and are sure that this is a cause worth supporting. http://www.heartlandsbaby.org/index.html
- Cool Earth: Supported by The Adventurists, Cool Earth supports rainforest communities in halting deforestation and climate change all around the world. https://www.coolearth.org/
To take up a position on the starting grid in Cochi, we need to raise a minimum of €1.500 for the two charities by January 2019. Anyone who contributes to the cause will be commemorated on our trusty Rickshaw and will thereby accompany us on our journey. The funds we raise on this platform will be donated to the two charities mentioned above. We are counting on your support and will keep you updated on our shenanigans! Follow our journey on Instagram
About Us:
Florian is a pure bred, 22 year old Austrian who put his treks through the mountains in Austria on hold to study Management and Real Estate Finance in Germany. As a passionate outdoorsman and accomplished chef, Florian will be responsible for navigation and the provision of nutrition on our journey.
Henry was born in Hong Kong, grew up in South Africa and studies Management and Corporate Finance in Germany and has previously reached the age of 21. Passionate about anything with moving parts, especially planes, Henry will lead the engineering division of the Skilpadjies and ensure the expedition is always on time.

2. means “Tortoise” in Afrikaans.
This coincidence was too significant to ignore and has hence been designated the official team name.
