Heart Warriors of the Philippines

We are Filipinos living in Hong Kong.  My daughter was born with Congenital Heart Disease - Tetrallogy of Fallot.  We are blessed that we are able to have access to public health care. We are even more blessed that the main government hopsital in Hong Kong, specializes in Pediatric Cardiology.  My daughter has since then had surgeries at 5 months and 17 months old.  Her condition has been corrected.  All this time, I felt so alone as I didn't not really encounter any family who has gone through what we have.  And definitely the language barrier did not help.  And so off to Faceobook I went and found this group called Heart Warriors of the Philippines.  Going through all these stories on the group, I realize that there are so many others in the Philippines who are not as blessed as we are.  Many have so little means.  Some cases are quite simple but still we lose heart warriors because of very limited access to proper healthcare.  And so I set off on mission to really give back.  In 2016, we raised funds to help 1 patient who had an urgent case but still, it wasn't enough.  So much more could be done.

Maybe you can help us help them?  Every little bit counts.

A small Facebook group called Heart Warriors of the  Philippines was created in an effort to form a community to help children with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) and their families, many of whom come from marginalized backgrounds and limited means, making it harder for them to face the challenges of CHD.  In the group, there are many discussions on the disease and the need to have a deeper understanding of it; medical research and breakthroughs; requests and tips to secure financial assistance from various sectors of society and the simple yet powerful emotional support and comfort shared among the members.

$2,000 to help cover expenses for Annual Christmas Gathering on 10th December 2017.  This gathering serves as a chance to get together to meet fellow warriors and caregivers.  The aim is to be able to have more people this year and be able to waive the cost for them.  Truly, no better time to hold this event than Christmas, the season of love and giving.

initial funding for the group to conduct further projects for its members and the rest of the CHD community, and extend assitance for urgent and serious cases.

Over 5million babies are born with Congenital Heart Disease yearly.  20, 000 of those are born in the Philippines.

The Philippines is ranked 69th in the poorest countries in the world with the minimum daily wage ranging from USD5 - USD 10 only with 25% of the entire population living below the poverty line.  Access to public health care is still difficult and government assistance is insufficient.
