<div>Heart to Handle werd in 2014 opgericht door Daphne Koolen, die op twintigjarige leeftijd haar vader Norbert verloor aan de gevolgen van een hartstilstand. Samen met vier vriendinnen stapte zij op de fiets om geld in te zamelen.

<div>In de jaren na dit succes sloten steeds meer steden zich aan bij het initiatief. Elk jaar fietsen studenten naar verschillende bestemmingen in Europa om geld in te zamelen voor onderzoek naar hart- en vaatziekten.

<div>Dit jaar is het, samen met Groningen en Amsterdam, ook weer de beurt aan Delft. Acht Delftse studenten gaan zich voorbereiden naar een 4-weekse fietstocht richting San Sebastian van bijna 3000km. Zij gaan zich een jaar lang bezighouden met de voorbereiding van de reis en het inzamelen van geld.

<div>Jaarlijks wordt er een onderzoek uitgezocht waar het opgehaalde bedrag daadwerkelijk een verschil kan maken, daarom kunnen we elke euro goed gebruiken.

<div>Dit jaar wordt het geld besteed aan de PREVENT-CREATE studie waarin een DNA-analyse wordt uitgevoerd en de door middel van een kwalitatief onderzoek wordt een risicogroep bepaald. Hiermee worden de ziektekosten goedkoper en zal de risicogroep eerder een behandeling kunnen beginnen.
