Heart Surgery for Draft Pick Leighton McCarthy

Ever since Leighton was little he was playing football, and like most athletes dreamed of the day he would be able to play professionally. Fast forward a few years, and he played as a defensive end for his college team, Florida Atlantic University. In May, Leighton was selected as a draft pick from his dream team but unfortunately, his football career ended abruptly.
When Leighton went to meet the team doctors for a physical they could not medically clear him due to an unforeseen massive aortic aneurysm in his heart.
With his current condition, Leighton is unable to play football. He is in critical need of heart surgery to remove the aneurysm, and because of his young age, the procedure is incredibly risky and technical.
After months of waiting for appointments, Leighton has finally found a skilled surgeon but he has also encountered difficulties with insurance. Leighton is scheduled to have the surgery in two months and needs the funds to cover his medical expenses.
These funds in combination with help from friends and the family are crucial for covering part of the expenses from his surgery, hospital stay, medications, and post-operative physical therapy. As a young adult, hearing he was chosen as a draft pick for his dream team and finding a life-threatening heart aneurysm all within the same month has been an emotional rollercoaster for Leighton and his friends and family.
After surgery, Leighton will hope to continue his football career. In addition, Leighton would like to combine his business degree with his knowledge of training, to pursue their own dreams of playing football professionally.
