At a little before 1 am, on October 9th, we awoke to the roar and flames of the Tubbs Fire racing towards our home. With no warning, other than a brilliant orange glow in the backyard, we had 3 minutes to flee.
Richard and I left with only the clothes you see in the photo and our cat. We raced off through the flames in our reliable old truck, leaving everything else behind.
For days we all quietly hoped that the house and barn were somehow, miraculously, spared. However by the 12th, the satellite evidence showed our worst fears - everything we had worked for was now ash.
To our surprise, the heart Richard mowed into the field for Valentine's day was still there - visible from space. Even though everything else was gone, that symbol of love was still present.
Our neighbors and community remain heart-strong. With your love, support, and donations we will turn towards the future and rebuild our lives.
