HELP ME BE ONE OF THE FIRST TEENAGE YOGA TEACHERS IN NEW ENGLAND!
My story:
Yoga is something most teenagers write off instantly as a lame idea, even though for many, yoga could be of huge benefit. It’s used in eating disorder recovery, physical therapy, personal exercise, and a means of connecting your mind and your body. My hopes is that once I have completed my teacher training, I will be able to use yoga as a way to empower young women, expose teenagers to yoga, and help patients recovering from eating disorders. I am personally using yoga as a means of recovering from my own eating disorder, as well as a tool for anxiety management, and physical therapy from a foot surgey I had in April of 2013. During my time at an eating disorders clinic, and through my own research, it became clear that yoga was something that was missing from many treatment approaches, that could be very beneficial in recovering.
Since I am 16 myself, my wish is that teenagers will be more open to giving yoga a try, since it's being taught by one of their own. My first means of doing this will be teaching coed yoga classes at my high school, Baxter Academy. These classes will allow students to meet their phsyical education credits, without having to take part in a traditional gym class. By doing this, I will be able to expose more teenagers to it's benefits. I will also be making connections with girls empowerment organizations, to bring yoga to young girls. Finally, I will be getting in contact with local eating disorder treatment centers, as well as others doing similar work in order to create the connections needed to be able to affectively bring yoga into said centers.
I have been accepted and received a partial scholarship for Todd Norian's teacher training at Lila East End Yoga, Portland, ME. Baxter Academy is also allowing me to incorporate this into a two year academic learning project.
***For each person that donates $50 or more, within a 50 mile radius of where I live, will receive a free private yoga class taught by me for up to 10 people!***
What your donation will be going towards:
-The training itself
-Books
-Supplies needed to attend the class including, but not limited to, mats, blocks, clothes, and straps
