Demand Healthcare Coverage for our Covid-19 Heroes

We are the Scott family, from SWFL Florida.  Our father was a practicing physician serving on the front-lines to combat illness during the Covid-19 Pandemic, when he contracted the disease and has been hospitalized since May 13th. Our family has discovered a lack of legislation to insure that health care workers such as our father receive the care they need when they get sick in the line of duty.  If we are to expect our doctors, nurses and healthcare workers to serve on the front-lines and fight this battle with Covid-19 in our nation; they need to know we as Americans have their back if they get sick.

Many states, including Florida, have not passed comprehensive legislation to ensure medical coverage and ongoing treatment for our non-public healthcare workers who contract Covid-19. In fact, many states and insurance companies have placed the burden of proof on the healthcare worker to prove their illness came from work; which is nearly impossible given the everchanging CDC list of Covid-19 symptoms, false negative/positive test results, and non-uniformity of exhibited symptoms from patient to patient. 

Our doctors and nurses are getting sick with Covid-19; some dying, and others being hospitalized for long-term  debilitating illnesses. These modern day heroes are even being forced to bankruptcy while they are left applying for public assistance programs, hoping it will afford them the healthcare coverage they so desperately need for their resulting disabilities after being infected with this disease.

We have a duty to those who are tirelessly continuing to work to ensure the health and safety of every citizen of our states and our country, both in the public and private sector.

Donations will be used to seek changes to  state and federal legislation that will provide healthcare coverage to doctors and nurses who contract Covid-19 during this pandemic; and burdens of proof from the healthcare worker to the insurance companies, so our Heroes and their families, are not left with the unjust burden of proving that they contracted Covid-19 while serving us selflessly in the lines of duty and bearing all the costs alone. 

We intend to accomplish this goal by collecting funds to help share the  stories of families who have similar experiences. The voices of these families will echo through legislative sessions across the country.  The remaining funds will be used to help Dr. Scott's wife to recover from the financial and physical effects of his ongoing illness.
