Health Insurance for Booked Employees

Booked family, of course, I would rather say this in person, but until we all get our vaccines…
I was diagnosed with breast cancer recently. I am still processing this, but I want you to know that the prognosis is good and I’m in great hands. I will be taking a quick break for surgery and recovery very soon, so you probably won’t see me around the shop for a few weeks (I don’t want to disturb anyone with the particulars of my treatment, but there are a few more details at the end of this message in case you’re curious). Our hours will not change and we will continue as normal. We have excellent booksellers that are waiting for your orders!

This little road bump in my life has put a few things in perspective for me and pushed me to action. I am so grateful for my care team, my Booked team, and you! As you no doubt know, getting adequate healthcare can be a very expensive proposition here. I am fortunate to have good insurance from my spouse’s employer, but that doesn’t help our booksellers. We have been working on a plan to provide quality health insurance for any employee who needs it. We believe that no one should have to worry about whether or not they can afford healthcare and see it as our responsibility to take care of our team at Booked as best we are able.
As a young business, we felt that we didn't have the means to subsidize health insurance for our employees. We’ve decided that the time for that to change is now. It’s so important that we’re going to make it happen anyway. Your support as loyal customers has given us the confidence to take that risk.
I know so many of you will ask, "What can I do?" WelI, if you agree that this sounds like a good idea and would like to support us in this effort, we have set up this page for donations. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to health insurance expenses for Booked employees. Nothing would make me happier.

I’m not sure how to say this without you seeing my face or hearing my sincere tone, but thank you. Thank you for reading and getting your books with us while being a part of our family. You have made my life so full. Opening Booked has been one of the best experiences of my life and can’t imagine my life without you all in it. I’m hoping for a quiet and speedy recovery, and look forward to seeing you again as soon as I am able!
