This GoFundMe page is being set up to help our son, Jeremy Edgar. On September 24, while hydrofoiling in the ocean off Cape Canaveral, Jeremy was trying to help two people whose Jet Ski had quit. He jumped in the water to connect a rope so he could tow them. While he was connecting the rope, a wave pulled the rope tight and his thumb was caught in it. The tip of his thumb was severed. He was rushed to the emergency room and he had to have emergency surgery. After a month and a half of healing and physical therapy, infection set in and he needed another surgery. He was admitted to the hospital last Thursday (November 14) and the surgery was performed. He was also put on high doses of antibiotics intraveniously so he has to stay hospitalized for several days. It was determined that Jeremy has a staph infection. A PICC (Peripherally inserted central catheter) was inserted into his arm so the antibiotics could be administered directly into his bloodstream. After going home from the hospital, he will have to administer the drugs himself three times a day for at least four weeks. He will also have to have a nurse change the dressing every week. He will be released from the hospital in the next few days, but will not be able do any physical activity for at least three or four weeks.
To add to his problems, in early November Jeremy's beloved dog Maverick had to be put down after having numerous grand mal seisures. In addition to losing his best friend, he accumulated a large vet bill. Since the accident, Jeremy has not been able to work. Because he has a very high deductable insurance. he is reponsible for $8000 out of pocket before the insurance starts paying anything. In addition, he has had very little income since the accident so his regular bills have been piling up.
Jeremy has always been known for his unselfish generosity and willingness to help others. Now we are asking you to help him. Anything you can give will be greatfully appreciated. We would also appreciate it if everyone would share this.
