Help Daesya Fight Cancer !
Hello, Friends!
My name is Daesya Parker. I’m 22-years-old. I'm a recent college grad and a first-year teacher – and I’ve been diagnosed with uterine cancer.
Backstory: During my senior year of college I felt out of sorts, completely. I chalked it up to stress and, at the time, I had no health insurance. Through post-graduation and post dual-certifcation (English & History Teacher) my health continued to decline. I visited my primary care physician who forwarded me to a specialist. After two pelvic exams, two ultrasounds,one CT scan, and a biopsy I had to face facts – I have uterine cancer.
The Silver Lining: I caught it early. I'm young and, most importantly, the cancer can be treated. Cancer is nearly unaffordable to fight, alone. At such a young age, I underestimated the importance of choosing comprehensive insurance coverage. Due to this, a large portion of the initial costs of my diagnosis are coming out of pocket. I’ve amassed some debt in the process and would appreciate some help alleviating that burden, so I can focus on fighting cancer and winning!
The Goal: My needs are in the immediate tense. I began accruing medical debt as soon as I was consulting with specialists to achieve a correct diagnosis. I've had no choice but to let some bills fall into collections. In my updates you can read about my stages of diagnosis and know my expenses, as they stand, today. This current effort to raise money is primarily aimed to curb the cost of my diagnosis, alone. I want to be prepared to confront the cost of treatment, when that time comes.
The Furture - Treatment Plans: I'd like to move forward with the a surgery that would require the removal of my uterus, cervix, ovaries, and fallopian tubes -- a hysterectomy . Once complete, my doctors will determine if I need to move forward with chemo/radiation. With such a major medical procedure, I can only anticipate the burgening medical expenses ahead. I'll be updating my crowd-funding as information of those costs comes through doctors and consultations.
Despite all of this, I'm still teaching. I don't want to stop until I'm at a point where I medically cannot continue to do my job. I love teaching. I believe it is my calling. It is something that I'm genuinely passionate about and I don't want to leave my students in the middle of the school year.
