Healing Support for Nancy

Donation protected
In September of 2016, my mom, Nancy Jones, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She lives in Los Angeles. Although an initial lumpectomy seemed successful, several lymph nodes were removed that showed the cancer was already spreading. Since her cancer was determined to be "triple negative" her treatment outcomes were less optimistic from the beginning, but she still felt relatively well for a long time. Over the past year, she has endured eight different regimens of chemotherapy. (Her doctor let me know that most triple negative patients do not survive more than 2 or 3).

Mom completed nine types of chemotherapy treatment before Feb. 2018, and her oncologist has said there is nothing left medically to help. Her final scan showed many new lesions in her liver. The mental and emotional effects of these intense treatments have certainly taken their toll, let alone the physical effects, as her body is in rapid decline with increased pain. In-home hospice care was put in place on March 15th, with planned nurse visits at 2x per week.

My recent urgent visits to California helped me get a more accurate picture of what her immediate needs are, and develop a strategy for how these needs can be met. I am my mom's only child, and she is no longer in touch with any other family. Living far away during this time, as you can imagine, is heartbreaking. I am trying to do all I can to support her and her husband, who also has mental and physical disabilities. Thankfully, their billable medical expenses have been covered through MediCal and Medicaid.

Many people have asked how they can help. The purpose of this page is to provide a place for monetary donations to be collected for the following intentions:

1. Household - The first phase of need focused on Mom's living conditions, which were very concerning. Basic appliances (refrigerator, microwave, blender) were donated or purchased to make it possible for food to be prepared more easily and safely. Many other household items were needed to just to make her home more livable and safe for her condition.

2. Meals - Once Mom ran out of medical options, healthy food became a priority for strength. Unfortunately, she does not have meal support available through her church, so we have assumed that role. On their extremely tight fixed income, they need healthy groceries and pre-made meals delivered to sustain both mom and her husband.

3. Travel - Travel expenses are a great need for me to be able to oversee details about her care and help make arrangements for all that is ahead.  We are trying to take care of as much as we can remotely, but a few trips will surely be needed. We are also praying about the possibility of my wife and children traveling at some point as well, although we aren't sure what this would look like. We had hoped for a visit while she was well enough, but we are letting go of that and trusting the Lord to show us His plan in all of these details.

We are very thankful for the friends and strangers who have stepped up to help me take care of MANY details in recent days. It has been a testimony of God's faithfulness and provision! We are reminded daily that we are not walking alone in this fight for my mom's life. Although she may not have many people within her own reach to lean on, we are able to be a bridge to mom and see her spirits rise as she receives the love and care of others. We are thankful most of all that she is a believer  in Jesus Christ and that she has eternal hope!
