Healing Heart For Baby Titus

Titus is now 5 weeks old and has been diagnosed with chronic congestive heart failure. In order to give him the best chance, they have moved up his open heart surgery to within the next few weeks.
Since his heart is failing and the actual muscle itself is very weak, they say surgery is going to be much riskier than initially expected. A weak heart can't typically heal itself after surgery, especially a surgery this intense where he'll need quadruple bypass for them to physically work on the inside of his heart.
Because of this, the mortality rate goes up immensely. They even offered us to take a few days to decide if we wanted to risk it and do surgery, or just allow nature to take its course. =(
Even if he makes it through surgery they say that the best case scenario will be that he'll be on life support for a long period of time to give his heart a break enough to heal. After surgery the risk of stroke, seizure and cardiac arrest will be very high. They suspect that if he makes it through surgery he will end up needing a heart transplant before being able to pull him off of life support. Since this is their assumption they think it's best that his surgery is done at an actual heart transplant center. Those are in Sanford California and Seattle Washington, so either way it will be quite far from home.
Since his recovery is expected to be several weeks at best but likely several months, costs are already through the roof since there will be an abundance of lost wages and no paid time off left over from the last 3 week stay in the Portland hospital. Between fees for travel, food and hotel stays, this will take the biggest toll on their family yet.
