ORIGINAL POST: 04.25.19

Family, we have a need in our community for our brother, Mickey Holm. Mickey has three herniated discs in his back, and after exhausting tests and treatments and therapy, the excruciating pain is too much to bear. Surgery is always the last option, but it has come to this option, and unfortunately insurance is not available. More of the situation…

To know Mickey is to know a man of absolute woo and charisma. He is blunt and stubborn , and beautifully generous. Mickey is a man who loves people, and will never give up on you. A husband, a father of three, a son and brother, an artist, a drummer and a servant of the Kingdom of Heaven, and Mickey is also the Director of Community and Missions at Watermark Church in Tampa, and loves the work he is a part of there.

Mickey has had back issues on and off since he was a teenager, but since December he has been suffering with THREE herniated discs, with a pain level of NINE on most days. On top of seeing many doctors, there have been MRIs, testing, chiropractic care, spinal steroid injections, physical therapy, etc, and none of these therapies have relieved his pain and at this point has debilitated him from daily movement. The disc herniations are progressively worsening, and Mickey is starting to lose feeling in his foot and developing "foot-drop", which is a permanent neurological injury that could alter his walking ability for life.

After all of the treatment he has undergone, spinal surgery is the last option, and the determination is that the procedure would involve a minimally-invasive laminectomy and discectomy at the L4 and L5 spinal segments.

Because of the changes in healthcare, Mickey has not been able to find a policy his family can afford without a 12-month waiting period for pre-existing conditions. While yes, this is an option, due to the year-long wait, the large concern is that this timeframe would cause his neurological symptoms to become permanent, and there would be permanent nerve damage affecting his mobility.

And then also due to the mounting health issues, Mickey has been unable to perform his main job painting murals, which was a large portion of the the family’s main income. So this has become a compounding need for the Holm family.

From the Holm's: “It is really difficult for us to ask for help, we thrive when helping others, but are now extremely humbled and grateful for the help we hope to receive here. It took awhile to find a spine surgeon who would even consider talking to us, and because of Dr. Amber Roman (our chiropractor- who has literally been a God-send to us through all of this), we have been connected with a kind and generous surgeon at 360 Ortho and Spine in Tampa who would like to do this surgery for Mickey as soon as possible.”

The total cost of the procedure is $13,600, and so we are setting the goal for this campaign to $14,000 in order to cover the 3% processing fees for the GoFundMe campaign.

“We appreciate anything you are able to contribute to giving Mickey his quality of life back, so that he may continue his work of pushing back the darkness in Tampa. We do not take this lightly, and are so extremely grateful for your prayers and your help!”, the Holm family.

Family - anything and everything that can be contributed here is a beautiful gift. Let’s get the Holm family healed here.

With Grace & Peace & Love,

- Nate Murray
