Heal Kiffle

Kiffle is our 6 year old Bouvier.  She is very loved and a huge part of our family.  My husband and I live on a small farm which is a perfect life for our dogs.  I left Kiffle outside after her dinner with 2 other Bouviers. When I called them to come in Kiffle did not come. I found her along our lower tree line halfway down our hayfield.   It looked like my sweet, sweet girl had been attacked by a Buck right on our own property.  She was unable to walk and had a huge gash up the side of her body. We raced her to our vet and she was operated on that evening to repair the damage the Buck made with his antler.   X-rays were taken and determined she not only had this huge gash but the Buck must have stomped on her hind legs.  She had crushed paws and ligaments were torn on both hind legs.  The first thing to address was to take care of the gash.  The surgery took 2 hours to clean out the 6 inch opening and stitch everything close.  She was monitored the next 2 days at our vet’s office.   When she came home she needed a sling under her back end to keep all weight off her back legs.  A week later Kiffle had her second surgery to place 4 screws in her one paw to help it mend and then put her leg in a cast.  The other hind leg was also wrapped to give it support until surgery could be done to repair ligament damage.  Kiffle is home again until her next surgery to heal and rest.

This is going to be a long journey for all of us but one we are committed to so we can give Kiffle the best life possible.  Our Vet has been very kind and generous when he can but surgeries cost money.
