Heal Da Homies Community Center
With our communities facing a housing, educational, racial, and income crisis, we continue to be in the streets demanding administration to consider us in their plans for the city. Though we’ve made progress, we remain in our current situations. We need to build up our community solidarity.
To further our work in effort to contribute to the solidarity economy, Heal Da Homies will be leasing a space to start a community center. Within the center will include the following:
To further our work in effort to contribute to the solidarity economy, Heal Da Homies will be leasing a space to start a community center. Within the center will include the following:
- Meal program, where members can choose to pick up fresh food from our kitchen or eat indoors
- Political education classes and book club meetings
- Community fridge and radical book library
- Space for our future events, including but not limited to: self-defense, health clinic, emergency hotline services, teach-ins, etc.
- After-school program for youth for homework help and tutoring
- Temporary housing space for 2-3 houseless members that’ll include beds, room essentials, toiletries, and a private bathroom
- Space will be available to be used by fellow D.C. organizations that align with our goals and values
With the goal amount set, we plan to use it to purchase the following (but not limited to):
- Rent and utilities ($2k-4k+ per month)
- Tables, desks, and chairs
- Office supply materials
- Food ingredients and supplies to cook in bulk
- TV set and cable
- A set of telephones for hotline
- Bedding, pillows, blankets, and cleaning supplies
- Funds to be used to finance future events and give aid to community members
