Headstone for actor Lionel Belmore

Donation protected
Lionel Belmore was an English stage and actor and director who later concentrated his career on film work.  Born in Wimbledon, Surrey, England on May 12, 1867.

He directed over a dozen short films from 1914-1918 before switching to his acting talents.  Belmore made over 200 motion pictures (about half were silent films).   His silent films included: “Oliver Twist” with Jackie Coogan; “Iron to Gold”; “The Circus Kid” with Franke Darro and The Matinee Idol with Bessie Love.  Belmore’s sound features included the classics:  “Frankenstein”, as the Burgomaster; Basil Rathbone’s “Tower of London”; “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” with Charles Laughton; “Son of Frankenstein” with Rathbone and Karloff; “The Adventures of Robin Hood” with Errol Flynn; “Jane Eyre” and “Vanity Fair” with Myrna Loy to name only a few.

He appeared as Ossman in MGM’s first all-talking Technicolor film, “The Rogue Song”.  He also was the blacksmith in Laurel and Hardy’s feature “Bonnie Scotland”.

Belmore died in Woodland Hills, California on January 30, 1953 at the age of 85.  He is interred at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood in an unmarked grave.  Hopefully with your help we can rectify that with getting him a nice grave marker.   Any donation you make will be greatly appreciated.
