Crystal went to Mexico for her follow up in October.  They confirmed the great news that there was no evidence of disease, NED, at that time.  Given that she was NED, her doctor and her decided they would wait 6 months for the next follow up visit.

Prior to their trip to Mexico, Crystal decided that it would be best or her to take some time off of work to focus on her healing.  After the holidays, she decided to not return to work.  This was not an easy decision for her.  She had been at Northwestern Benefit for over 11 years and knew she would miss the people terribly.  She spends so much time with her home therapies and appointments/infusions at Emory that she wanted to spend all of her extra time at home with her kids.  Cayden has really struggled with her diagnosis.

Given that her cancer is driven by estrogen, she made the decision to have a hysterectomy on January 23rd.  All of the pathology came back clear.  During her recovery, she found a new lump on her breast.  She scheduled a pet scan.  Her oncologist called her on the way home from the scan and confirmed the unimaginable.  Her cancer had returned.  While she knew her chances of reoccurrence with Stave IV disease were very high, never would she have imagined that it would be back this fast.  Her cancer is extremely aggressive.

She has struggled over the last 5 days to process the news and try to determine the best course of action, all while remaining very strong for her husband and children.  At this time she is leaning towards a surgeon in New York for the mastectomy.  He offers technology that would allow for no general anesthesia, no pain meds, and great reduced recovery time.  This would allow her to spend more time taking care of her children.  More importantly, it reduces the risk of the cancer spreading beyond the breast.

As we all know, LIFE takes a village.  Crystal and her family need her village now more than ever!  Please consider donating to help her have this surgery.  All donations are greatly appreciated and all donations add up!! We are all aware that cancer takes a physical, mental, emotional and financial toll on those that have the disease.  We can help with these financial costs.  Time is of the essence for Crystal and this surgery.  She is looking to go to New York the week of February 25th.  Thank you to all who are going to donate, to all who have her in your continued prayers and for all that have sent heart warming, positive messages.

It takes a village!
