Get Denell Some Stem Cells

My sister Denell undergoes her 20th surgery tomorrow morning and I’d like to let her know she’s not alone in her battle with Crohn’s Disease. Crohn’s is an incurrable autoimmune disease that ravages the digestive tract. The surgery tomorrow is a Stem Cell treatment that will hopefully repair a hole in her digestive tract that the doctors have been unable to fix with other methods. The application of Stem Cells is currently considered experimental and part of ongoing clinical trials at Cedars-Sinai. Because of this classification a portion of the surgery is not covered by her insurance.
The portion not covered is not huge (we are told somewhere between $1,400.00 and $2,000.00).
Denell is a vibrant beautiful woman who would rather fill her time traveling, running marathons, hiking mountain ranges, and enjoying time with family and friends. Unfortunately, doing the things she loves is often limited since being diagnosed with Crohn’s five years ago. A big portion of her time is now consumed with fatigue, pain, medical bills, doctor’s visits, haggling with insurance companies, drug therapy, etc. She takes care of all of this on her own with a sense of pride and dignity that never fails to amaze me. I want her to know that she’s not alone and medical bills should be the least of her worries.
My goal is to raise enough money to cover this surgery. Anything received above and beyond our goal will be paid forward to other patient’s at Cedars-Sinai Internal Medicine Los Angeles to help with medical costs related to Crohn’s disease research.
