Hey there!
My name is Reyna Campuzano I’m a first generation student and a senior at Chico State University. I’m majoring in anthropology with an emphasis in archaeology, my main goal is to become a professional archaeologist with a focus in Mesoamerican studies. Luckily I was recently accepted into the Humboldt State University Archaeology Field School Program that will take place this summer in Belize. Attending this field school is a great opportunity and an upper hand for several graduate degree programs that I plan to apply for this upcoming fall.
So here’s a little bit about myself... I was born and raised in East Los Angeles, the first in my family to pursue a college degree. I became interested in archaeology at the age of 11. My love for history began in 6th grade where I learned about the realistic history of the Americas. This field school is a four week course where we will learn about contemporary Belizean life-ways as well as ancient Maya culture. This program will participate in the Dos Hombres to Gran Cacao Project which focuses on the fascinating settlement patterns of the Maya in both the Classic and Preclassic Period. What better way to learn about the beauties and hardships of being an actual archaeologist than to spend four weeks in a jungle surrounded by jaguars and howler monkeys? Unfortunately the financial aid I’ve received only covers a fraction of the cost. The field school alone costs $2,100 and the airfare is roughly $800. Along with travel insurance, food and other required materials financial aid doesn't suffice the required funds. I humbly thank you for sharing this campaign and for taking the time to read about my love and passion for archaeology.
