Ambers Hope for Independance

In September of 2003, just two months shy of my 17th birthday, I was diagnosed with a genetic disorder known as Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2). It’s a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form on nerves throughout the central nervous system and other random areas all over the body. I was young and active in cheerleading till my hearing started decending out of no where. I am the only one in my family who has NF2 so diagnosis was complicated.

I am now 27, I will be 28 on November 28th 2014. I have had a total of 29 surgeries over the past ten years to remove tumors from my brain, spine and random locations throughout my body. There is no cure for NF2 so more surgery will be needed. I'm not a fan of drugs or any kind of chemo, so surgery is my main option. But after this last one....I'm struggling... I'm known for my strength and optimisum to handle anything thats thrown at me. However, I have already lost all of my hearing, blind in one eye, tunnel vision in the other as well as needing it stitched half closed. I've lost the movement on the remaining side of my face last year and also the ability to chew. I do miss eating some things but I also enjoy all the ice cream shakes I want. Talk about a good diet! ;) But my last surgery, on Oct 27th, took even more. I am no longer able to walk on my own. The spine surgery damaged nerves while removing tumors and this one damaged my left leg muscles as well as my right foot. Both lower limbs were also left numb.

As I take on this new battle, I am thankful to have a supporting family and loving boyfriend to help me as I heal but the limitations are very new. I am in need of more assistive devices/products then I normally would to stay active living more independantly. I createsd this GoFundMe as a way of seeking support and donations to help offset the cost of these new medical expenses. I need to upgrade my home and bathroom to be able to navigate it safly on my own. I also plan to use donations to contribute to an adjustable bed. Due to the back pain and problems I have, I have a hard time sitting up on my own and come january, I have another spine surgery being planned.

I would like to thank anyone for whatever size donation they can contribute. I am a graphic designer so as a way to give back some, anyone who donates $100 or more, I will be glad to provide/do a personal design if you need one. I also have a zazzle account where I put designs on objects they sell. The money I raise off that site also goes to these medical expenses. If you would like to donate to me through another way then GoFundMe, please feel tree to email me at [email redacted]

THANK YOU!
