#HCW Midnight Run - Feed First Responders

Donation protected
Please donate to help us deliver food to the entire Emergency Room Departments and their staff at Buffalo's major hospitals.  We will deliver a customized meal prep program to the overnight staff at 4 area hospitals on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays during the Corona virus Pandemic crisis.  Buffalo General Hospital, Children's Oshei Hospital, Degraff Hospital, and Millard Fillmore suburban Hospital will all be on our rotation.  Our hope is to  expand this to other first responders like our police department, fire department and paramedics who are helping our community manage and provide care for the corona virus pandemic.

Why feed overnight staff?  Simple really.  Most restaurants are closed at that time and good food is often scarce for these health care workers when proper nutrition is paramount.  We have talked to the leadership of Children's Hospital Foundation and received their approval to assist these health care professionals in time of need.

Our other goal is to slowly bring back the Acropolis team who has been laid off.  We want to keep going and not close.  This program will ensure that Acropolis remains open and our staff keeps working when many restaurants are closing because demand is so low.

Any donation amount will be accepted:

               $1 = funds 1/10 of a meal
               $10 = funds 1 meal
               $100 = funds 10 meals
               $1,000 = funds 100 meals

Meals will consist of a warm hearty dinner and a cold side (like a healthy salad).

100% of donations will be used to fund meals and their deliveries. Please check back as we will be posting video and photo updates of our deliveries.

The Mission: The coronavirus pandemic has hit our beloved city very hard. The number of cases keep going up and the hospitalizations keep rising as well.  It is up to our health care workers #hcw now to provide the ongoing support and health care to the people who are infected and need hospital care to recover from the coronvirus disease. It is these ER departments that will be tested every day and the staff that makes up these departments will be the crucial component in getting  our community back healthy again.  Let's feed our heroes well and support them through this crisis.

Our goal is to not only deliver our heroes delicious, home cooked meals made right here at Acropolis OPA but also give them HOPE and ENCOURAGEMENT and stand by them through the roughest times they have had to experience to date.

#hcw Midnight Run starts Tuesday, April 7th and will go on until every donation amount is satisfied with a meal.

Acropolis OPA :  We opened our restaurant in 1982 in the Elmwood village.  We have been trusted by the community to feed them throughout the years and have had a great time doing it.  It is a family business that my mom and dad started, and a business I took over in 2010. My mom still works side by side with me although at 79 years old, i told her to stay home and isolated with my dad until it is safe again for her to join us again.   My sister helps me with catering jobs and I have a staff of 20 that keeps this restaurant running day and night.

Since this epidemic became a pandemic, our business, like many others have suffered.  It is a struggle to say the least and the days of keeping our doors open might come to an end without help form our community.

I am currently seeing programs like this help small businesses stay open throughout our country all while helping our first responders get the nutrition they need in order to do their jobs effectively.  It is also a great gesture by the community to rise up and say "we appreciate you" when they are risking their own lives to save someones life.   If you know me you know that I love my staff and what they do for Acropolis on a daily level.  Unfortunately they are mostly home now and out of work.  I want to bring them back full time if possible and get my business back fully operational.  This creates a win win for all of us.

Why the name Midnight Run?

While social distancing I watch TV like most of you.  A movie I have never seen before called Midnight Run came on with Robert Deniro and during the movie I came up with this program.  I also have many close friends in the health care industry and some one very close to me that works the overnight shift as an ER doctor in a Long Island Hospital in Huntington.  She is the widow of my very best friend Dr. Gerard Silva that passed away in late 2018.  So my hope is to keep my place open during the pandemic, hire back my staff that I love, and dedicate the Midnight Run program to all of the health care workers in the ER departments who are heroically saving our friends and family from coronavirus disease all while risking their very own lives delivering this care.

As owner I will give you my word that we will make the most delicious food for the overnight staff working the ER rooms at these hospitals I mentioned above. We will deliver them with Acropolis staff.  And we will put smiles on their faces and let them know we all appreciate them.

Thank you for even considering to donate.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me at any time.
