Nidiffer Cemetery Perservation Association

Donation protected

The Nidiffer Cemetery Preservation Association is an Oklahoma Charitable organization which was formed to reclaim a forgotten cemetery in Ottawa County Oklahoma.  The cemetery dates back to 1885 in the northern part of the Cherokee Nation.

There are about 50 graves in the one acre cemetery with a number of those belonging to the Shawnee and Cherokee tribes and were listed on the Dawes Rolls at that time.

The cemetery is on private land and is fenced, but has not been maintained in many years.  Our goal is to clear out the brush, small trees initially.  We have obtained the support and help of the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M agriculture department who will help us with expertise on reseeding and managing the turf so a reasonable carpet of grass can be grown and maintained more easily.

We will also receive some funding from the Cherokee Nation, and possibly from the Shawnee tribe in the future.

Our goal is to start work in late Winter or early Spring before the growing season.

After we have cleared the area we will do our best to reposition and clean any headstones that are there.  We have a detailed map of the cemetery from the 1980's listing the people buried there and the location.

We are asking for any donations for this cause including volunteer work when we get started.
