Concerned Friends of Hood Canal,
GRUMP VENTURES and PeninsulaTopsoil thumbed their noses at Mason County and our pertinent residential zoning and code rules by engaging in gravel mining without permits at the GRUMP site on North Shore Road, opposite the Port of Allyn boat ramp.

What's the problem?
This spring, excavation equipment was moved to the site on Monday, April 1st. Gravel mining work started mid-week without permits. Mason County Code Enforcement Office was notified by the end of week. But it wasn’t until Monday, April 8th, that Mason County visited the site to investigate, and shut it down.
GRUMP VENTURES has since informed the Department of Natural Resources of their intent to operate the 67 acre site as a surface mining facility, which we are preparing to oppose.
What's being done?
We are very fortunate that David Bricklin , of Bricklin & Newman, LLP has agreed to represent us in opposing the GRUMP VENTURES gravel mining activities. He is a Harvard-educated attorney who has devoted his professional life to environmental protection, and, as one retired Department of Ecology attorney said, “is the most effective attorney we can retain.”
Mr. Bricklin sent a letter to Mason County on June 7th to notify them he’s been retained by HCGMOA. He has requested they permanently shut down the operation, and states any attempt to apply for a permit would be futile—resulting in a lengthy process that ultimately would be denied.
Help safeguard Hood Canal and our community from the threat of this gravel mine by donating to our legal fund, which will help cover the cost of legal expenses and community outreach efforts.
