Mane's for Michele

Back in September, Michele went to the ER after not feeling well.  After the routine tests and procedures that are done while in the ER, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. Over the next 6-8 weeks, she was in and out of the hospital and on a variety of medications to treat it.  The medications were having no effect on the dark spots that were believed to be pneumonia so she went under further testing. It was then discovered she has a rare bacterial infection in her lung called “Q Fever” and Stage 1 Lung Cancer.  (Never hear of Q Fever? There were only 167 confirmed cases in the US in 2008.)

The doctors are optimistic about her cancer diagnosis.  Pending some final test results, they believe surgery will be able to remove the Cancer and Q Fever.  She may need to continue antibiotics for an additional 18 months to ensure the Q Fever doesn’t return.  

As with any medical issue, there’s always a certain amount of expense and stress that comes with it. Michele and Bruce have always been incredibly hard working to support their family; and the first to help others and have never asked or expected anything in return.  

Now it’s our turn.  To help ease some of the strain and stress of dealing with her impending treatment, recovery, and follow ups; we (their children and her Sister Alice) are willing to “donate” our hair to raise some funds.

Here’s how it works. For every $200 raised, somebody will lose an inch of hair, or $400 for a beard. When you make a donation, you can specify if you want the amount applied to a specific person’s hair “donation” by leaving a comment.  Those participating are listed below with how much hair they have to lose.

Alice: 12 inches

Jessica: 2 inches

Barry: His beard (must be after November)

Kari: 5 inches

Lou: 3 inches

Bobbie: 16 inches

Tim: Whatever he can grow by the end of December $400 (Beard and hair)

Sam: 14 inches
