Booger is an adorable German Shepherd mix that
was dumped by his owner at The Mingo County Dog Pound in West Virginia.  They gave little information on this scared neglected boy other than he was blind from birth and he was attacked by another dog. Other family members never cared to learn his name and did not want him around anymore.

When the plea was put out to help this boy, people came together and a rescue was planned that day.  Booger had to spend one more terrifying night in a noisy pound

until his savior came. He did not have to endure one more minute biting in the air trying to defend himself from other dogs he thought were coming after him. I could not imagine his fear being thrown into that prison all alone with the barking and crying all around him and not being able to see anything .  He did not have his eye sight to let him know that the other dogs were locked in separate kennels and were unable to get to him.

He was so fearful of everyone and everything that in order to transport him safely to the Veterinarian, he had to be sedated.  At that moment, he found peace curled up in a soft blanket and loved for possibly the first time in his life.

He was given vaccines and neutered.  While under sedation his eyes were examined but a full examination was not possible due to him under sedation and his eyes rolled backwards.  Dr. Koch determined that his pupils respond to light and his eyes appear to be normal, however, he is blind.
In his opinion he believes that he was not born blind and that severe trauma has caused his vision loss. He felt that there could have been trauma to his central nervous system and there could be neurological damage .  He highly recommended Booger be seen by a neurologist and Opthamologist and wrote him a referral to PVSEC ( Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center

We have scheduled an appointment for November 19th, 2014.  Booger's exams and tests will be costly. We are a group of people that work together to help rescue animals when we can. We are not a rescue and we do not have funding for the animals that are pulled and fostered.  Without donations we will be limited on what tests Booger can receive.
Donations can also be called in directly to PVSEC and asked to be transferred to Neurology. Please be sure to tell them it is for Booger.
