Kayla's fire recovery

Donation protected
On the evening of 11/14/14, a fire claimed the lives of Bindi, Kayla's beloved dog, and an elderly beagle, Pearl, whom Kayla had taken in with the hopes of giving her the happiness and peace she deserved at the end of her life.

Kayla lived in her own home onsite at North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue as a caregiver, volunteer and foster mom. Two other dogs that Kayla was fostering escaped the fire, but Kayla's home was destroyed along with everything she owned besides the clothes on her back.  Due to the number of dogs on the property, no one was willing to insure her house or contents; everything is lost.

Kayla has been a loyal volunteer and foster mom for NMAR for over ten years, helping to save hundreds of dogs.  Bindi was at the rescue for about a year, and when it was determined that she was not adoptable, Kayla took her as her own.  Kayla has never left a kill shelter with just the dogs she was supposed to pick up--she could never turn her back on a hurting hound and always returned with extra puppies or dogs.  Recently, Kayla has taken on the heartbreaking, selfless work of saving old dogs.  She can't bear to see an old dog spend its last days in a cold concrete pen, and she's opened her heart and home to many elderly dogs, giving them the love and care they may have never had before.

If the dogs could help Kayla now, they certainly would, but instead, Kayla needs help from her friends to rebuild her life.  Please give in honor of your NMAR alum, your adored pets, or simply for Kayla and all the dogs she's saved.
