Suzie's faith animated every dimension of her existence. Her kindness and genuine holiness touched the lives of so many. She had a particular love for the Holy Eucharist and the Priesthood and prayed for priests every day, especially in her last days. I would not be the priest I am today if it were not for the prayers, love, sacrifices, and support of Suzanne.
In memory of her and in honor of her great love for the Priesthood, we are asking friends and family to give to the Suzanne Therese Bercier Memorial Seminary Burse with the Diocese of Lafayette.
A seminary burse is a “named” portion of the seminary endowment trust fund, which was started for the Diocese of Lafayette in the year 1919. Burses are commonly “named” either by the person or persons who established them, or in memory of a deceased loved one.
Money donated to the seminary trust fund remains as untouched principal, while interest from the trust is used to pay for the diocese’s annual cost of seminary formation. Currently, the interest from the trust pays 20% of this expense, while the remainder is supplemented by funds raised during the Bishop’s Services Appeal Campaign.
Typically, a burse is completed when its balance reaches $15,000. This amount represented the total cost of educating a single seminarian back when the practice was first established, although today that cost has risen to approximately $200,000. Once a burse has reached $15,000, a new burse may be opened if those who established the original wish to continue their donations.
You can give here online or by mailing your contribution to:
