Deer Kicked & Broke Dog's Leg in Accident

Our dog "Hawk Dukey" escaped out the front door when our storm door accidentally blew open. We live in Ocean Shores, WA with a plethora of wildlife around us, especially deer, which are not so “wild” out here. We assume the deer kicked Hawk, we heard a "yelp" and he wobbled back with his front, right leg dangling just below his joint. We are very thankful it wasn't worse! He was rushed to our nearest emergency vet. After an ER assessment, x-ray, soft cast/splint and meds given we were told it was a complete break meaning the bone pieces were detached from each other. Therefore, he would need surgery in the next 48 hours to insert and attach a titanium plate to the bone. It was heart wrenching and stressful to know that was our only choice or to put down a very active, happy 4 year old dog! He's truly my baby! Hawk had the surgery and has been home a month recovering now with much hope for running on the beach one day! The surgeon cost $3,750.00 + a $600 initial bill. He has a 30 day strict crate rest, starts 5-10 min walks at 6 weeks and a 90 day x-ray check to make sure the bone fully healed and the plate stayed where the surgeon intended it to.
