Haven’s Surgery and Recovery

A few days ago, Haven, my registered emotional support animal, began choking and vomiting profusely. I rushed her to the vet where they determined she was stable, and we ordered bloodwork for the upcoming week.

Haven was not able to wait that week.

Last Saturday, Haven began vomiting uncontrollably while shaking and getting extremely hot. We rushed her to the emergency room where they got her stable and gave her anti nausea medications. We followed up with our vet for X-ray and bloodwork....

That’s when I heard, “Haven has a foreign body trapped in her stomach.”

My heart instantly dropped. Haven has been vomiting because this foreign body has been filling her stomach, causing her to be unable to eat as much. She’s down over 10% of her total body weight due to this foreign body. When her stomach gets irritated from moving wrong or eating too much, this causes her vomiting and panic.

Due to ferret’s small size, fast metabolism, and long intestines, Haven is unable to pass this foreign body on her own. She requires surgery to remove this obstruction before it causes irreparable damage or a complete blockage.

Matt and I have wracked up after this ordeal approximately $1,300.

Initial vet visit for choking: $62.00
Emergency vet bill: $163.00
Follow-up bloodwork and X-ray: $319.24
Estimate surgery cost: $764.70

While Matt and I usually budget for emergency expenditures for our pets, recently moving, paying security deposits, and the plethora of visits has taken a toll on our finances. 

Ive applied for CareCredit to ease the blow of these numbers, however any assistance at all would greatly help during this challenging time.
