Have a Heart. . . Help a Hart

Chris has been a friend for over 30 years.  We first met in grade school.  After graduating Fairfield Prep., he went on to study at Boston College and the University of Connecticut.  We've remained friends ever since.

Several years ago, Chris was diagnosed with a degenerative liver condition, and was placed on a transplant list.  He will eventually need a new liver in order to survive.  In the wake of this diagnosis, his younger sister Kim fell ill with brain cancer.  After a courageous battle lasting several years, Kim succumbed to her illness 3 years ago.

This past May, Chris was abruptly removed from the transplant list as he was diagnosed with liver cancer.  He has courageously undergone rounds of chemotherapy, and his medical team is working very hard to eliminate the tumors so that he can once again be placed on the transplant list.  His doctors believe that his best chance to eliminate the cancer will be to follow a cutting-edge immunotherapy protocol.  Unfortunately, this will not be covered by insurance.

Both Chris, and his devoted parents, have been through hell the last few years.  Now, in the wake of their dear sister/daughter's passing, they are faced with yet another cancer battle.

On Saturday, October 13th, I will be running the Hartford Marathon.  I am dedicating my participation to Chris, his late sister and his wonderful parents.  I'm asking folks to sponsor me for just $1.00 per mile. . . AND. . . to tell at least five (5) other people about this effort and ask them to donate the same.  All of the proceeds will go to Chris and his family.  He is threatening to donate all of the money raised to St. Jude's Hospital, because he cares a lot about children with cancer.  That will give you a hint about the kind of person that he is.  I will, of course, make sure the money goes where it is most needed.  You can imagine that both his and his parent's resources have been drained in recent years (not to mention their spirits).

I ask for your support in this effort.  I also ask for your prayers.  Remember, life is a team sport.  Thank you.
