In 2012 my mum was diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
She had been suffering from a sore back for years and after many misdiagnosis the heart breaking truth was revealed.
Multiple myeloma is a type of cancer that develops from plasma cells in the bone marrow.
There is treatment for this condition but no cure.
So in 2012 mum started her first round of chemotherapy and had her first stem cell transplant.
Mum faced it like nothing i have ever seen before. She would work in the morning, have chemo and come back and work the rest of the afternoon. She never complained, never felt sorry for her self and took the whole crazy process like a real champion.
Since 2012 she has had good and bad days but in the begining of 2015 mum started to become increasingly unwell. The bad days started to out weight the good days and she knew something wasnt right.
After another long round of tests and hospital stays in november 2016 mum was diagnosed with amyloid in her left kidney. This is a condition which abnormal protein builds up the the tissue and organs which can lead to life threatening organ failure. In mums case the kidney leaks large amounts of protein into her body which makes her extreemly unwell.
So December 2016 she underwent a chemo blast and another stem cell transplant.
But 5 months post treatment and the amyloid is as aggressive as ever.
Her only option is a trial drug which is not on the PBS. Meaning you have to be "eligible" to recieve funding for the drug. And in mums case she doesnt meet the criteria.
The drug is $10,000 a month
$120,000 for the year.
I cant sit back and watch my mum get any sicker in the hope they will fund her this drug.
What if its to late by that point.
We need our mum
My boys need there nanna
My dad needs his wife
And i refuse to let any of us be robbed of that
I love my mum more than anything so all pride aside i am asking for your help.
Big or small every little bit gets us closer to getting her these drugs.
Anyone who knows my mum knows what an incredible women she is. She is loved by so many. Please help us help her.
