It's hard to believe we've just entered October. In some ways, it feels like a lifetime ago when the restaurant industry got turned upside down. But here we are, eight months later surviving. And that is in no small part thanks to the kindness of people like you.
Your generosity helped us pivot our operations and gave our staff the ability to work again and take care of their families in a time when every bit helps. Your support has also been felt by Maria. You gave her the ability to pay for medical expenses and her rent as she goes through her treatment.
As we move into fall, we find ourselves with an opportunity to bring back more staff by extending our outdoor dining area into the street. This opportunity not only would ensure the sustainability of The Hatch long term, but it would also allow us to bring back more staff and to hire additional staff as well.
To make this opportunity a reality, we need to build wheelchair-accessible parklets in front of the restaurant and buy tables, chairs, and outdoor heaters. We've estimated the cost to be roughly 30K.
Donations of $50 or more will be sent a Hatch T-shirt designed by local Oakland artists. Donations specifically earmarked for Maria will be given directly to her.
I can not overstate the impact your donations have had on The Hatch. The other day I found myself being chastised by our Cook for buying the wrong potatoes. I found myself annoyed as I drove back to the store and then just as quickly found myself laughing out loud and feeling grateful that with all that's going on in the world we even have a chance to argue about what are the best kind of potatoes.
