Filters for Flint

Donation protected
Hashtag flint 2018 started as a school project about advocacy but has since turned into students working to bring clean and safe drinking water to the people in Flint, Michigan by raising money to purchase filters and replacement cartridges.

In April 2014, Flint's financial woes spawned a public-health crisis. Desperate to cut costs, Flint’s cash-strapped municipal government switched its water supplier from the Detroit Water and Sewage Department, which takes its water from Lake Huron, to the Flint River. Unfortunately, the new water supply was contaminated with high levels of lead, a highly toxic element that can cause health problems ranging from heart disease to brain damage. It may take decades for all the consequences of Flint’s water crisis to become known.

So far, 25 city lines have been replaced but another 500 need upgrading to help supply the people of Flint with safe drinking water. Federal funds have helped provide clean water up until April 2018 but now there is still a huge need for filters and replacement cartridges becasuse residents will no longer be recieving bottled water.

The people of Flint can have access to clean water with NSF Standard 53 compliant filters on their faucets.

Our goal is to raise money to purchase as many compliant filters and replacement cartridges as possible.

100% of the money raised will be used to purchase filters and cartridges.
