Many of our friends and family from across the nation have asked "how can we help?" It is an impossible situation in Houston following the devestation of Hurrican Harvey but the spirit and love of neighbors, friends and complete strangers have made it possible.
My parents evacuated safely to higher ground on Sunday when the water became too much. Moving my father, a survivor of Parkinson's for 18 years and diabetes was an absolute struggle. Moving my Mom, who has faught along side of him and held our childhood home together was a movement of force.
They were finally able to return to home only to see that water had not only entered but took so much. Our living room, their bedroom, the kitchen, bathrooms, the garage, Dad's walkers and power chair to get around completely swamped and had to be broken down and thrown out front like trash.
So many people have helped them tear down walls, remove appliances, rip up floors, remove carpet, clean out the mud and bring them food. But they need so much more now. As the storm has rolled on, their problems and struggles have continued to build as they attempt to rebuild and move on.
They are too proud to ask for help but they need our help. If you are able and want to help someone, please help my Mom & Dad in Cypress, Texas. All proceeds will go directly to Penny and Berk to help them rebuild their home and replace neccessary items to support their well being.
