Harvey Hurt Meagan

Donation protected
Hi, everyone! I'm Lynn and I'm a graduate student at Baylor College of Medicine and currently reside in Houston. Luckily I was spared from the destruction of Hurricane Harvey, but others were not so lucky. We are setting up this page for our friend and classmate Meagan who was hurt by Harvey. Meagan is a graduate student at Baylor College of Medicine. She lived in a first floor apartment, and on Sunday morning she woke up at 5am and saw the waters approaching her door. Luckily, when the rain began the night before she ran across the complex and save her best friend's dog, Gingy Puff.  So she was able to bring Gingy Puff and her own dog, Pepper, up to the second floor. She spent the next two days on the second floor with several caring strangers, without electricity, but with what mattered most: the 2 pups.

On Tuesday, after days of waiting, the waters receded and she was able to see the disaster that had once been her home. The water had reached 5 feet in her apartment, destroying almost everything in the apartment along with her car parked at the complex.

It might make you happy to know that Meagan and her friend from her complex have decided to live together, after loosing their homes.
This means that Gingy Puff, Pepper, and Meagan will be together for a long time. However, the story isn't a happy one. Meagan did not have flood insurance, as is common when renting in Houston. Being a grad student is also not the most lucrative life path. She is currently trying to figure out how to afford a new car and the expenses of moving into a new apartment, including deposits and rent. As well as how to furnish that new home, replace her clothes, and rebuild her life.

There are some things that can't be replaced, including all her treasures from childhood- like the book she wrote and illustrated in the 5th grade and her baby books, that I helped her throw out in an industrial sized garbage bag this past Sunday. But you can help her with her future. Not only is Meagan trying to figure out how to afford rent, a couch and a new car, but she is also planning on graduating with her PhD in the next year, after 6 years of hard work. She was planning on going to school for genetic counseling next year to work towards her goal of being a genetic counselor. She told me on Sunday that now she will have to put that dream on hold for at least a year, because she won't have enough money after Harvey for school.

Please help Meagan so that she can not only rebuild her life after Harvey, but so she can have the future she has studied for, worked for, and dreamed of for years.

The beneficiary Meagan's goal is to allocate 25% of funds to setting up new housing, including a deposit for an apartment, first months rent, and pet fees. 40% will be used to furnish the apartment- all of Meagan's furniture and most of her possessions were destroyed, so she needs everything from a bed and a couch to clothes hangers, a vacuum, bed sheets  and a TV. Essentially she will be creating a home, replacing belongings and furniture, and buying a new dog bed for Pepper. 25% will be allocated to the cost of a new car as her car was totalled by flooding. Lastly, 10% will help with miscellaneous things such as groceries (including dogfood), toiletries, and cleaning products.  Hopefully this campaign will help Meagan enough so that she can go to genetic counseling school next year! Any small donation helps!

Meagan is currently in the process of setting up all new housing, buying furniture and neccessary supplies admist saving up for a new car. The withdrawal plan is Meagan will recieve donations on a daily basis (as dontations are made to this campaign) so she can use them to pay for these neccessary items.
